POSITION OVERVIEW
The Senior/Staff Engineer, Civil reports to the Engineering Superintendent, Mechanical and is the technical steward for site structures and geotechnical engineering and is accountable for supporting maintenance and improving these systems including all associated documentation. The Senior/Staff Engineer, Civil will participate and provide discipline expertise to less experienced support staff in engineering design, maintenance, and production activities.
The successful candidate will typically work with some minimal guidance but is expected to be proficient, fully autonomous and self-reliant within their area of expertise. A common objective of members within the Engineering Services group is to independently contribute to the overall engineering functional group to troubleshoot structural issues, develop solutions, and ensure that execution of maintenance and capital projects is carried out according to code and Cheniere specifications.
Other usual and common interfaces will include mechanical engineering, inspection, capital projects, maintenance, operations, and external specialist engineering consultants, such as marine, seismic, and geotechnical disciplines.
This is a non-DOT position.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Civil and Structural Engineering support for the facility operation. A broad range of civil and structural engineering knowledge and its numerous associated sub-disciplines will be essential and required. Exposure and experience with various civil sub-disciplines such as roadway design, hydrology & hydraulics, floodplain management, geotechnical engineering or soil mechanics, stormwater management design, knowledge of various foundation types, structural steel design, seismic design, marine infrastructure, construction management, etc; are all highly desirable qualifications.
- Assist to monitor maintenance personnel and contractors for adherence to LNG codes, standards, and design basis that provides safe, reliable, operation and maintenance
- Ensure technical integrity of civil and structural engineering design is maintained by selection of cost efficient and appropriate technical design and engineering standards in conjunction his team members and external specialist consultants.
- Support design review of temporary buildings at facility, including risk assessments and MOCs
- Manage annual collection and review of site elevation data, including coordination with 3 rd party surveyors.
- Manage annual regulatory elevation data for LNG tank aprons and inclinometer data for pile caps, including coordination with 3 rd party and developing reports.
- Serve as administrator of the site subsidence procedure, responsible for yearly assessments, management of subsidence around buildings and structures
- Review area paving in advance of site turnarounds to use of heavy cranes or other equipment
- Support capital projects group in concept select, design reviews, startup and commissioning, PSSRs, MOCs, and as-built validations.
- Review and approve site critical lift plans and excavation certificates.
- Develops working relationships with other department personnel within the plant to seek out opportunities that will add value to each job completed.
- Reinforces awareness of safety and environmental incidents through frequent job observations. Ensure the development or collecting information in support of permit requirements as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Knowledge:
Applies general knowledge of LNG production, transportation, storage and loading, including health, safety, maintenance, operations, governmental regulations and associated codes and standards. Practices and demonstrates in-depth knowledge of structural and geotechnical engineering, national codes, standards and regulations, and their implementation in operating facilities.
Skills:
- Strong technical management abilities with effective project coordination and leadership skills.
- Thorough knowledge of industry codes such as ACI, ASCE, and IBC and their practical application to industrial facilities
- Must be articulate and have effective time-management and organizational skills to handle multi-tasking on concurrent projects, often running in parallel and simultaneously
- Strong ability to organize, plan, control, coordinate and effectively manage cross-functional assignments and projects.
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities to analyze data and identify issues, recommend, develop and implement solutions.
- In depth knowledge of construction techniques and practices in the energy, natural gas and/or petroleum industries, with emphasis on LNG projects and civil construction methodology and techniques.
- Must have a high level of safety awareness and knowledge of applicable LNG design regulations (FERC & PHMSA)
- Sufficient computer literacy to provide quantitative and written reports.
- Proficient use of Microsoft suite of products and project specific software.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education and Certifications: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required. Graduate level studies preferred. Professional Engineering License in good standing with at least one state is preferred; preferably Texas or Louisiana.
Experience :
- Senior: 5+ years of engineering and construction experience in LNG Liquefaction, LNG terminal and/or petrochemical/gas/power industries with emphasis on Civil Engineering, Sitework, Soils and/or Structural Engineering. Experience working in LNG Plant or other related industrial facility preferred.
- Staff: 10+ years of engineering and construction experience in LNG Liquefaction, LNG terminal and/or petrochemical/gas/power industries with emphasis on Civil Engineering, Sitework, Soils and/or Structural Engineering. Experience working in LNG Plant or other related industrial facility preferred.

WORK CONDITIONS
- Job is performed in an office setting.
- Occasionally, work may be performed from home, after normal work hours or on weekends.
- Limited travel required, as business conditions dictate.
- Subject to drug and alcohol testing, per applicable federal regulations or as required by Cheniere.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs, work at height above ground on stairs and catwalks, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, smell, type and write.
- Must be able to board a ship via a gangway, climb to the top of a tank (200+ steps), scale vertical steel ladder up to forty feet or more in height and lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work indoors and outdoors, and be exposed to year-around weather conditions, ocean environment, and noise. There is a considerable amount of outdoor activities involved.
- Must maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card in good standing status.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
- Required to pass regularly scheduled physical examinations mandated by regulatory authorities.
- Required to obtain mandated certification by attending Company-sponsored training in basic first aid, CPR, and LNG firefighting.
