GFT is seeking a Highway Project Engineer to support a variety of projects in the Mid-Atlantic Region. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our Lexington, VA office.

Responsibilities

What you'll be challenged to do:

This position will be party of our award-winning team in our Lexington, Virginia office.

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Computing horizontal and vertical alignments for roadways.
  • Preparing typical sections and details.
  • Preparing cross-section elements.
  • Preparing Traffic Control Plans.
  • Assisting with the development of a complete set of construction documents including documents required by other disciplines.
  • Coordinating with Sub-Consultants and internal disciplines to develop complete roadway plan sets.
  • Back checking work of other Engineers or Sub-Consultants.
  • Writing and preparing Project Specifications.
  • Preparing Quantity Calculations and Construction Cost Estimates.
  • Assisting with coordination of the technical aspects of projects with Clients.
Qualifications

What you bring to our firm:

  • Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited school;
  • 4-8 years of experience in Highway Engineering;
  • E.I.T. Certification;
  • Knowledge of automated office software such as MS Office;
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.

What we prefer you bring:

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering or Business Administration;
  • Familiarity with Virginia Road Design Manual, Road and Bridge standards, IIM’s, estimating practices, specifications, and regulations;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of AASHTO, FHWA, and MUTCD standards;
  • Working knowledge of MicroStation/Geopak/Open Roads/Open Roads Designer;
  • Knowledge of project management practices including project scheduling and budgeting and associated software such as Primavera and MS Project;
  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) license.

Compensation:

The Salary range for this position is $63,000-$95,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
