GFT is seeking a Drainage Engineer to support a variety of projects in the Mid-Atlantic Region. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our Lexington office or any of our Virginia office locations.

Responsibilities

What you’ll be challenged to do:

You’ll support transportation and infrastructure projects by preparing engineering calculations, technical reports, drainage designs, and permitting documents. Your work will involve hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, stormwater management design, and ensuring compliance with VDOT and local standards.

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, plans, specifications, and permitting documents.
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, including stormwater collection system analysis.
  • Develop stormwater management designs and obtain permits in compliance with state and local regulations.
  • Perform reviews of drainage designs, plans, and reports for VDOT and municipal transportation projects.
  • Ensure design quality, technical accuracy, and compliance with applicable VDOT and VDEQ standards and guidelines.

Qualifications

What you will bring to our firm:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Transportation Engineering (or a related field).
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • 5-8 years of experience in drainage design for highway and roadway projects.
  • Proficient in OpenRoads Designer.
  • Strong knowledge of VDOT Design Manual, Standard Plans, and Virginia Stormwater Management and Erosion and Sediment Control Handbooks and all applicable VDEQ and VDOT requirements.

What we prefer you bring:

  • Prior experience on VDOT projects is strongly preferred.

Compensation:

The Salary range for this position is $96,000-$120,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
