HEAVY CIVIL ESTIMATOR

One of the Kansas City area's most established and highly regarded Heavy Civil General Contractors is seeking an experienced Estimator . This position is critical in developing accurate, profitable, and timely project estimates. The ideal candidate is self-driven, detail-oriented, and an excellent communicator, ready to take on challenging projects and contribute to the company’s success.

Position Overview

The Estimator will:

  • Analyze and compile data impacting costs, including labor, materials, equipment, location, and other variables, to deliver high-quality estimates.
  • Review project drawings, specifications, and site conditions, incorporating input from field operations into the final estimate.
  • Explore alternative solutions and construction methods to enhance bid competitiveness.
  • Validate “take-off” quantities to ensure accuracy.
  • Utilize historical cost data and advanced analytical methods to ensure logically sound and accurate cost estimates.
  • Present estimates during bid reviews with senior management to ensure precision and completeness.
  • Engage with owners, subcontractors, and public/private entities to ensure competitive bids.
  • Share bid information with field operations during pre-construction meetings, ensuring clear understanding of the project scope and critical construction methods.
  • Build and maintain relationships within the industry to expand bid opportunities.
  • Supervise, mentor, and guide estimating staff.
  • Lead and participate in discussions on innovative means and methods to create successful, competitive estimates.


Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or equivalent experience.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of heavy civil estimating experience in areas such as concrete paving or infrastructure, highways, bridges, rail, sitework etc.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Primavera P6, Bluebeam, or other construction related software.
  • Solid understanding of civil engineering and construction principles.
  • Familiarity with equipment capabilities and construction techniques.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
