Position Profile
Hanson Professional Services Inc. is seeking aSenior Bridge Structural Engineerto join our growing Infrastructure team. Based in Springfield, IL, this leadership role offers the opportunity to work on complex and high-impact bridge projects across a variety of markets. You will play a key role in advancing Hanson's bridge engineering and inspection capabilities and mentoring the next generation of engineers.
Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
Lead the structural inspection of existing bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and other transportation-related structures.
Lead the development of bridge condition reports and bridge assessments to determine repair scopes for rehabilitated bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and other transportation-related structures.
Provide technical oversight and quality control for structural deliverables, ensuring compliance with AASHTO, DOT, and local standards.
Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including roadway, geotechnical, hydraulic, and environmental engineers, to deliver integrated solutions.
Client Engagement
Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, maintaining strong relationships and identifying opportunities for new and repeat business.
Represent Hanson in meetings with clients, contractors, and public agencies.
Mentorship and Development
Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, providing guidance in bridge inspection, technical development, project execution, and career growth.
Assist in internal training sessions and contribute to the development of best practices in bridge design and inspection.
Innovation and Strategy
Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and evolving design standards.
Contribute to strategic planning and business development efforts to grow Hanson's bridge engineering portfolio.
Qualifications/Technical Skills
Software Proficiency: IDOT Bridge Inspection System (BIS) (preferred)
Bridge Inspection Certifications: Team Leader (minimum), Bridge Program Manager (preferred), Element Level Inspection (minimum), Nonredundant Steel Tension Member Inspection (minimum), Tunnel Safey Inspection (preferred)
Design Standards: Deep knowledge ofAASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, state DOT standards, and FHWA guidelines.
Project Tools: Proficiency in theMS Office Suiteand project management tools.

Education/Experience
Experience: 15-20 years of progressive experience inbridge structural engineering and inspection, including leadership roles on complex projects.
Licensure:Professional Engineer (P.E.)license required;Structural Engineer (S.E.)license or eligibility to sit for the 16-hour NCEES Structural exam is required.
Education: Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering required;master's degreepreferred.

Salary Range: $142,000 - $160,000 annually
Bonus: Eligible for an annual discretionary bonus
