General Laborer Trainee Civil

JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary:

The General Laborer Trainee Civil will work alongside their assigned construction crew for on-the-job training program to gain a better understanding of the trade.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Unload tools, prepare building site materials, stack building materials,
  • Will learn a variety of construction techniques under cement masons, and form setters,
  • Help with concrete work, pouring, mixing, finishing, backfilling and leveling,
  • Use construction, maintenance tools and equipment to complete daily tasks,
  • Assists in job site traffic control setup and take down in accordance with specifications to ensure a safe work zone,
  • Learn basic carpentry skills, framing, cutting lumber,
  • Assist with the setup, operation and maintenance of message/arrow boards,
  • Learn how to build scaffolding and/or other temporary structures,
  • Ability to follow all safety procedures,
  • Clean and clear debris and hazardous materials at the job site,
  • Must wear proper attire at all times including PPE,
  • May be required to work extended hours including evenings, nights, and weekends,
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Must be a DC resident,
  • Must possess less than one (1) year of construction experience,
  • Must be able to work independently and as a part of a team,
  • Must have reliable transportation,
  • Must be dependable and reliable,
  • Must possess a positive attitude and work ethic,
  • Ability to focus on safety of self and co-workers at all times,
  • High school diploma or equivalency is desired,
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background and drug screening.

Working Conditions:

  • This job requires the ability to lift, pull, and push a minimum of 50 lbs.,
  • Bend, stoop, kneel, reach, squat, and twist.
  • In addition, you must have the ability to use hands, arms, and legs repeatedly,
  • This includes frequently walking on sloped ground and slippery and uneven surfaces,
  • This job requires the ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time,
  • This job requires the ability to see, whether naturally or with vision correction tools (glasses, contacts),
  • Performing strenuous work in varying temperatures, humidity, wind, or other extreme inclement weather conditions for extended periods of time,
  • May be exposed to extremely hot materials, fuel, fumes, vapors, dust, grease and oils,
  • Exposure to loud noise and exposure to moving equipment.
  • Note: This position is considered Safety-Sensitive, and therefore subject to various schedule and unscheduled screenings for controlled substances.
