Position Summary
The City of Dania Beach is committed to employing a talented and diverse workforce. We are currently seeking an Assistant Project Manager to join our dynamic Public Services Department. The ideal individual will perform high-level administrative work related to the management of capital/construction/process implementation projects for the City. The incumbent will be under the general direction of the Public Services (PS) Deputy Director, Senior Project Manager, and Lead Project Manager and, when required, work closely with the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) and Grants Administrator. In addition, the individual in this role may be called upon to assist with projects not directly involving right-of-way, utilities, or civil engineering. This will include, but not be limited to areas such as facilities, landscaping, and miscellaneous projects such as the light pole banners program. Duties & Responsibilities
- Analyzes proposals; initiates and maintains capital project contracts.
- Identifies resources required to support the development and implementation of assigned projects.
- Coordinates the review of the work of vendors and consultants engaged in a variety of complex projects.
- Reviews consultants' plans and specifications and conducts meetings with consultants and contractors as necessary.
- Monitors project effectiveness and adherence to schedule, seeking to identify potential areas for improvement.
- Manages and monitors contracts for services and materials ensuring compliance with terms and provisions.
- May assist in the preparation of specifications and bid documents as needed.
- Works with Procurement Office to coordinate bid advertisements, pre-bid conferences, evaluating bids, and making recommendations for award of contract.
- With guidance from the lead Project Manager or Senior Project Manager, issues Notice to Proceed to contractors.
- Assists in preparation of schedules and monitors construction progress.
- Reviews field inspection reports.
- Assists in the preparation of change orders.
- Maintain records of consultants/contractor payments.
- Assists in the inspection of projects for substantial completion and prepares punch list of any deficiencies.
- Prepares required paperwork for closing the project.
- Arranges for correction of defects by contractor during warranty period and conducts inspection at end of warranty period to ensure correction of defects.
- Communicates regularly with consultants, vendors, contractors, and citizens as required.
- Responds to and resolves difficult and often sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints that may arise related to assigned projects.
- Stays current with industry trends for assigned projects, including technology development, consumer trends, competitive trends and best practices impacting the overall performance of assigned projects.
- Assists with the preparation of the budget for capital project expenditures.
- Drafts memoranda, letters, and other forms of correspondence; prepare various reports, presentations; and report/present findings to Public Services Director and Deputy Public Services Director
- Performs related work as required by Public Services Department Directors and Senior Project Manager.
Qualifications
What's required: (Minimum Requirements)
- Bachelor's degree incivil engineeringfrom an accredited college or university.
- Experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
- Three (3) years in managing public works capital improvement programs, transportation engineering, and development planning.
- Possess a valid, driver's license with an acceptable driving record and must maintain it throughout employment without any restrictions affecting job requirements. If the driver's license is out of state, must be able to obtain a Florida driver's license within thirty (30) days of the hire date.
What's preferred: (Desired Requirements)
- Six (6) years in managing public works capital improvement programs, transportation engineering, and development planning.
- Florida registered Engineer-In-Training (E.I.T.) is strongly desired.
- Six (6) years in managing public works capital improvement programs, transportation engineering, and development planning.
- Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering surveying, design, construction, operation of public works projects and facilities, and coastal work.
