PRIMARY SUMMARY:

The Davenport Operator is responsible for operating various multi-spindle screw/ davenport machines (Acme, Davenport Bar / Servo/ Chucker and Euro turn) for the manufacture of various types of fasteners and special products (new or revised).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operates multiple multi-spindle screw/ davenport machines according to detail blueprints, specifications, work orders and work instructions. Selects and obtains proper material and tooling for the job. Checks tooling and reworks as needed to manufacture parts to print specification.
  • Performs minor adjustments on machines and regulates functions such as coolant flow, and related machine operations. Able to change out collets, feeders, spindle stops, cams and gears to layout specifications.
  • Notifies supervisor or lead of major malfunctions or when machine maintenance is needed.
  • Performs Statistical Process Control (SPC) checks part samples per specification and acts in accordance with output and demonstrates knowledge and use of Shop Floor Systems.
  • Utilizes full range of precision measuring and gauging tools to perform inspection before start, during and completion of production run. Inspects parts to ensure conformance, dimension and tolerance levels within specifications and blueprints using measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers.
  • Performs record keeping, data entry (piece count & run time of production) and maintains housekeeping.
  • Reports any safety violation, machining equipment misusage and/or improperly performed work to supervisor or lead.
  • Able to recognize cosmetic non-conformances based on Company specifications such as; burrs,

galling, cracked edges, slug marks, dimensional changes in production parts and initiate action to prevent non-conformance such as stopping the machine and notifying Supervisor.

  • Follow all 5S department procedures which include but are not limited to; keeping floors clean of oil

and debris, returning tools to proper locations, organize part pans, and performs other housekeeping duties.

  • All employees are responsible for complying with the rules and regulations set forth by Federal, Local, and State government, LISI Aerospace, and HSE Procedures.
  • All employees are responsible for attending all training provided and for adhering to all HSE procedures, policies, and plans, conforming to reporting requirements, and safe operating procedures at all times.
  • Continually seek opportunities to improve our HSE performance by establishing objectives and targets, measuring progress, and reporting our results.
  • May assist and/or suggests waste elimination initiatives specifically related to the function and department such as opportunities to elimination of production material recycle and waste opportunities.
  • Other tasks and duties may be assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • A minimum of 1 year experience working on Multi-Spindle Screw/ Davenport machinery and manufacturing procedures; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working experience in fastener manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient in blueprints interpretation, key process parameters and SPC data acquisition.
  • Ability to make all inspections on machined parts using precision measuring equipment.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of basic mainframe computer systems and be familiar with excel spreadsheets, word processing software, SPC & Shop Floor Systems.

Language Skills Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Must be able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Knowledge of basic shop math. Ability to perform these operations using units and weight measurement, volume, and distance

Reasoning Ability

Ability to comprehend detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
