Preconstruction Engineer Job Description We are seeking an entry-level Preconstruction Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role supports the Manager with estimating and bidding tasks across various commercial projects, including Ace Hardware stores, shopping centers, ground-up restaurants, coworking spaces, and office renovations. Additionally, you will assist with estimating HVAC, electrical, and MEP scopes. The ideal candidate may come from a Project Engineer or Assistant Project Manager experience, possesses strong blueprint reading skills, and has experience with RFIs and submittals. A willingness to learn the financial side of construction is essential, along with the ability to make calls to subcontractors and vendors, build relationships, and wear multiple hats in a fast-growing company. Read and interpret plans, specifications, and scopes of work. Perform quantity takeoffs and gather pricing from subcontractors. Support design management and provide cost feedback during design development. Identify and communicate scope changes and value engineering opportunities. Travel to job sites to gather project-specific information. Build and maintain relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and clients. Participate in preconstruction meetings and document key takeaways. Help track historical costs and maintain estimating documentation. Collaborate with project managers and field teams to ensure alignment on project goals. Essential Skills 1-3 years of project engineering, Assistant Project Manager, or preconstruction experience. CM or engineering degree (CM preferred). Ability to interpret construction drawings and read blueprints competently. Experience with submittals and RFIs. Strong communication skills and ability to be client-facing. Ability to build relationships with subcontractors. Ability to wear multiple hats and eagerness to learn. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with Quantity Takeoffs. Experience with General Contractor construction preferred over Subcontractor. Proficiency in estimating software, Autodesk, and Bluebeam. Multifamily construction experience is accepted. Work Environment This position requires working in the office five days per week, with site visits as needed.
