The duties include but are not limited to:

Skilled in painting buildings, fixtures, and equipment.

Erects scaffolding of ladders or planks.

Employs swing stage equipment for painting high exterior walls.

Spreads canvas or cloth over surfaces and objects to prevent paint spattering.

Removes old paint and varnish by scraping, burning, sand blasting, pressure washing and other methods.

Prepares surfaces to be painted (gym floor sanding).

Mixes and matches paint, varnishes, enamel, and lacquers and paint and varnish removers.

Applies paint, varnishes, lacquers, and enamels to interior and exterior surfaces of furniture, wood, and metal with brush, paint roller, spray gun, or other approved methods of application suitable to surface.

Applies waterproofing to surfaces when required.

Paints signs, and lines on parking lots, sidewalks, and in school gym.

Cleans and maintains brushes, spray guns, and other equipment used in craft.

Estimates time and materials needed.

Maintains accurate and timely records of time, labor, and materials via computer-based programs.

Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with the Supervisor, Foreman, and other employees.

Completes work assignments without close supervision.

Completes all projects as to neatness conformance with standards or related trade.

May be assigned other duties as required.

This position may also be required to work after hours and on weekends when necessary.

This position may also be required to perform duties on shift work schedules.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be a high school or trade school graduate from a regionally accredited school or have GED equivalent.

Must have five (5) years of experience in painting trade or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Must have knowledge of standard practices and process of the trade.

Must have knowledge of paints, varnishes, lacquers, enamels, paint removers, and other surface 'prepares' and finishes.

Must have knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions to be observed.

Must have the ability to mix and match paints and varnishes.

Must have the ability to apply paints by brush and spray guns.

Must have the ability to perform while elevated above ground.

Must be able to make estimates of time and material required on various assignments.

Must be skilled in the methods and techniques of the painting trade.

Must be able to take care of and use pertinent tools and equipment.

Must possess some basic computer knowledge.

Must possess a valid Alabama Driver's License.

Applicant must be insurable as determined by an investigation by MCPSS personnel into private and business driving records within any consecutive three-year time frame.

**Applicants selected for classified positions must undergo (or have undergone) an ABI/FBI criminal history background check (fingerprinting administered through sites selected and approved by the MCPSS and State of Alabama Education Department) and be declared suitable and fit to teach under state law. Applicants selected must also pass a drug-screening test via forms provided by Human Resources during the selection process.**
