The duties include but are not limited to:
Works in the construction, maintenance, and repair of structures.
Performs general carpentry work in the construction, alteration, and maintenance of buildings, floors, partitions, doors, window frames, screens, wood fixtures, roofs, and locksets.
Builds and installs doors and windows.
Installs and repairs roofs of buildings, schools, and other structures.
Covers roofs with roofing materials, such as composition shingles and sheets to make them waterproof.
Installs and repairs all types of ceilings.
Repairs and installs bleachers and sports related equipment in gyms.
Makes detailed lay-outs for work as required.
Builds/places forms for steps, curbs, small foundations, and other related work.
Estimates materials and number of workers needed for completion of jobs.
Builds concrete forms on site.
Installs sub-flooring and sheathing.
Builds rough wooden structures such as barricades and scaffolds.
Performs bench work in carpenter shop, operates power saws, joiners, lathes, planers, borers, sanders, and related machines.
Works with laminating plastic goods, i.e., formica, fiberglass, and counter tops.
Maintains accurate records and submits records of time, labor, and materials via computer-based programs.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with supervisors, foremen, and other employees.
Completes work assignments without close supervision.
Completes all projects with neatness and in conformance with standards of related trade.
May be assigned other duties by a lead position, Zone Coordinator, Director of Maintenance or Executive Manager, Facilities.
THIS POSITION MAY ALSO BE REQUIRED TO WORK AFTER HOURS AND WEEKENDS WHEN NECESSARY.
THIS POSITION MAY ALSO BE REQUIRED TO PERFORM DUTIES ON SHIFT WORK SCHEDULES.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be a high school graduate from a regionally accredited school or have GED equivalent.
Must have five (5) years of experience in carpentry trade or equivalent combination of training/experience.
Must have skills using standard tools, materials, methods, and practices of the carpentry trade.
Must have knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the specific trades.
Must have the ability to climb and work from scaffolding, ladders, and heights.
Must be able to work from blueprints, sketches, and follow oral and written instructions along with some basic computer knowledge.
Must be able to work well with other members of the building crew and other employees.
Must have the ability to estimate materials, equipment, and workers needed for specific jobs.
Must possess a valid Alabama Driver's License.
May be required to obtain a Commercial Driver's License.
Must be insurable as determined by MCPSS personnel into private and business driving records within any three-year time frame.

Salary Range: From/ToBeginning pay - $41,248.00

**Applicants selected for classified positions must undergo (or have undergone) an ABI/FBI criminal history background check (fingerprinting administered through sites selected and approved by the MCPSS and State of Alabama Education Department) and be declared suitable and fit to teach under state law. Applicants selected must also pass a drug-screening test via forms provided by Human Resources during the selection process.**
