Tyto Athene is searching for a Telecommunications Technician - Journeyman to support U.S. Southern Command on the SCITES II Contract in Doral, Florida.
The Journeyman Telecommunications Technician installs, configures, and maintains telecommunications systems to support USSOUTHCOMs mission-critical communication infrastructure. The technician ensures proper operation of telecommunications infrastructure and assists in system upgrades and incident resolution in accordance with DoD standards and policies.
Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, and maintain VoIP and traditional telephony equipment
- Assists in deploying and integrating voice, video, and data communication technologies, ensuring reliable connectivity across enterprise networks
- Monitors system performance, conducts diagnostics, and performs troubleshooting to resolve network and telephony issues
- Perform cable installations, terminations, and testing for copper and fiber optic systems
- Conduct site surveys and provide documentation for cabling and telecom layouts
- Assist in implementing call management systems and features
- Collaborate with network and system administrators to ensure interoperability of telecom systems
- Maintain equipment inventories and support lifecycle management of telecom hardware
- Support telecom-related incident and change management processes
- Maintain and update telecom documentation, diagrams, and asset records
- Assists in performance monitoring, security assessments, and compliance audits to align with cybersecurity, risk mitigation, and continuity of operations (COOP) strategies
Required:
- Associates degree in Telecommunications, Information Technology, or related field
- 4-9 years of relevant telecommunications or VoIP support experience in enterprise environments
- Familiarity with VoIP systems, PBX, and SIP technologies
- Experience in working with copper, coaxial, and fiber optic cabling
- Basic understanding of network protocols and infrastructure
- Ability to read and interpret telecom blueprints and diagrams
- Strong communication and organizational skills
Desired:
- Bachelors degree in a related technical field
- Familiarity with DISA STIGs for VoIP
- Experience supporting OCONUS or classified telecom systems
- Knowledge of unified communications systems such as Cisco CUCM
- BICSI Installer Level I or II
- Cisco Certified Network Associate
Clearance:
- Secret clearance required with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI
Certification:
- DoD 8570 Baseline & CE certifications are required for all positions and may vary slightly depending on the skillset required to perform the role
- CompTIA Security+ CE
- Cisco Certified Technician (CCT) or Cisco VoIP systems training
