ResponsibilitiesWhat you'll be challenged to do:
The Water Resources / Drainage Engineer is responsible for designing, modeling, and analyzing stormwater and other water resource systems for a variety of land development projects. This position involves utilizing hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) modeling software, performing technical analyses, and collaborating with project teams to develop effective and sustainable water management solutions. This person ensures designs comply with regulatory requirements while supporting project timelines and objectives.
In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
Stormwater Management Design:
Develop stormwater management designs, including detention/retention systems, drainage networks, and floodplain analyses.
Prepare and analyze designs to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Hydrologic and Hydraulic Modeling:
Utilize H&H modeling software such as ICPR, HEC-RAS, HydroCAD, or similar tools to develop stormwater models.
Perform floodplain studies, watershed analyses, and stormwater calculations.
Analyze and interpret model outputs to inform design decisions.
Plan Production and Documentation:
Prepare technical reports, calculations, and construction plans to document design processes and support permit applications.
Ensure all deliverables are accurate, thorough, and meet project requirements.
Collaboration and Coordination:
Work closely with civil engineers, project managers, and clients to integrate water resource designs into overall land development projects.
Respond to client inquiries and regulatory agency comments related to water resource designs.
Quality Assurance and Support:
Review designs and models for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable codes and standards.
Provide technical support during construction, including field observations and addressing construction-related concerns.
What you'll bring to our firm:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or a related field.
- Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
- Engineering Intern (EI) certification (required).
- Demonstrated proficiency in developing stormwater models using software such as ICPR, HEC-RAS, HydroCAD, or similar H&H tools.
- Strong understanding of hydrologic and hydraulic principles and their application to stormwater design.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
What we’d prefer for you to bring to our firm:
- Experience with Autodesk Civil 3D CAD software, or a desire to learn.
- Project Management experience, or a desire to develop project management skills.
- Professional Engineer (PE) certification or the ability to obtain it within six months.
- Familiarity with local, state, and federal water resource regulations.
- Familiarity with upcoming state regulations related to across-the-board Nutrient Load Reduction requirements.
- Experience in preparing technical reports and permitting documentation.
