About our opportunity:
The City of Asheville is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Project Manager I in the Capital Management department. Capital Management oversees the planning, design, and construction of major infrastructure and facility projects for the City. This role is instrumental in ensuring capital projects are executed efficiently, within scope, and on budget.
What youll be doing:
Develop and manage comprehensive project plans, including timelines, budgets, and coordination of project team members.
Oversee all phases of assigned projects from programming and design to bidding, construction, and close-out.
Serve as the Citys representative and main point of contact for consultants, contractors, and community stakeholders.
Coordinate with City staff, elected officials, and outside agencies to facilitate progress and resolve conflicts.
Review and approve design documents, engineering reports, construction plans, and contractor deliverables.
Conduct site inspections and ensure compliance with contracts, codes, specifications, and safety standards.
Manage public engagement processes and respond to inquiries from residents, the media, and civic groups.
Prepare executive summaries, updates, and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Assist with contract negotiation, bid evaluation, and monitoring of project-related financial activities.
Facilitate final project inspections and ensure appropriate documentation and acceptance procedures are completed.

Salary: $62,540.93 $68,795.02 annually

About you:
We know your time is valuable. Applicants who meet the following minimum requirements or have comparable experience and/or education will be considered:
Three years of experience in project design, planning, and execution plus a Bachelors Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
Performance aptitudes:
Strong ability to manage multiple priorities, problem-solve, and communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders
Comfortable with public presentations and community engagement
Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, project scheduling tools, and general office technology
Experience interpreting contracts, engineering plans, and technical specifications
Physical requirements:
Tasks may require light physical effort, including lifting or moving objects up to 10 pounds
Frequent use of computers and extended periods of time at a workstation
Must be able to visit job sites and participate in field inspections
