Our client operates a power generation plant in Southern Illinois and they have an opportunity for an Electrical Engineer.

Overview

This position will have accountability and responsibility for continuous improvement of electrical equipment and support systems with the objectives of safe operation and elimination of repetitive failures. This position is dedicated to the engineering function and will be focused on the application of technical skills and ingenuity required in the analysis of plant electrical equipment and related systems. Equipment and related systems consist of but are not limited to large generators, motors, variable frequency drives, precipitators, transformers, switchgear, relays, batteries, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), balance of plant electrical systems, back up battery systems, and ancillary support systems.

This position will be primary focused on the main generator, medium voltage, and high voltage electrical systems.

Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, any one or more of the following:

  • System Owner on assigned electrical equipment.
  • Subject Matter Expert on NERC standards related to assigned electrical equipment.
  • Coordination of electrical related planned maintenance and repair projects for scheduled and unscheduled work necessary to maintain and / or improve the reliability and capacity of the plant. Ensure all PMs are consistent with the Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) philosophy.
  • Through the design change process, evaluate and implement modifications as requested to ensure budgeted capacity, availability, and equivalent forced outage rates of the facility.
  • Lead and/or participate in any plant Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and Failure Modes Effects Analysis (FMEA) processes involving or related to electrical equipment and related systems to ensure corrective actions, repairs and or modifications are appropriate and timely in their execution.
  • Provide project management for plant projects or outages through the development of contract work scopes, assembly of budgets and contractor oversite for assigned electrical equipment and related systems.
  • Work with and train electrical maintenance and plant operations personnel in the most reliable, safe and efficient methods of electrical equipment and system maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Maintain assigned electrical testing and history records for the facility, keeping equipment documentation current, including all drawing and SetRoute (cable management system) revisions. Work with vendors as needed to ensure all electrical drawings are up to date.
  • Be able to read and understand electrical schematics, one-lines, and connection drawings.
  • Determine and maintain adequate stock of spare parts for assigned equipment.
  • Regular and reliable attendance required.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • A Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university is required.
  • Three or more years of experience working at an industrial facility or power plant preferred.
  • Experience with NERC regulations and compliance preferred.
  • Experience with the design and maintenance of large generators, medium voltage, and high voltage power systems.

Certification/Licensure

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) / Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification is preferred
  • Possession, or pursuance of a Professional Engineer License is preferred.

Knowledge of

  • Knowledge of NERC standards is desired.
  • Microsoft Office Suite, for preparation of presentations and reports.
  • AVEVA PI Vision platform.
  • ETAP modeling software
  • IEEE standards.
  • Protective relaying equipment.
  • AutoCAD or other drafting packages
  • Distributed Control Systems (DCS)
