Job Purpose:

The Maintenance Supervisor will assist the Plant Manager in directing and coordinating the activities of workers engaged in repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment, and in maintenance of buildings, grounds, and utility systems of mill, industrial plant, mobile equipment or other establishment by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Directly supervises, trains and coaches’ employees in the maintenance department.
  • Function as a leader in performing work safely and promoting safety conscious behavior of plant employees while always ensuring a safe working environment.
  • Effectively schedule and assign mechanical and electrical resources to ensure all required maintenance is complete and impact to production is limited.
  • Work with the maintenance team to create and ensure completion of necessary preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Routine inspection of all machinery and equipment.
  • Participate in the improvement and growth of the Preventive Maintenance (PM) program in IFS based on equipment failure and quality issues.
  • Coordinate activities of workers fabricating or modifying machines, tools, or equipment to manufacture new products or improve existing products.
  • Implement new methods and procedures designed to improve operations, minimize operating costs, and effect greater utilization of labor and materials.
  • Support Maintenance lead’s effort to establish and maintain proper inventory controls.
  • Confer with management, engineering, and quality control personnel to resolve maintenance problems and recommend measures to improve operations and conditions and equipment.
  • Direct maintenance actives on utility systems to provide continuous supply of heat, electric power, gas, and air required for operations.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skill & Abilities:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • The Maintenance Supervisor must have a demonstrated record of accomplishment in a manufacturing culture focused on safety, reliability, and process improvement. Ideally this experience will include industrial minerals processing or continuous process manufacturing.
  • Experience should include a minimum of 5 years of maintenance experience, preferably in a leadership capacity.
  • The ability to blend coaching and managing to effectively drive improved results, develop followers and strengthen the operation team.
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Passion for results and demand for excellence
  • Computer skills particularly with Microsoft and ERP applications
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, such as, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent
  • Ability to work in confined as spaces and elevated locations
