This position is located at the Wellington Webb Building, located at 201 W Colfax Ave. Denver, CO 80202.

The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees physical work location is based upon the positions job duties and requirements, customer service and responsiveness, team and individual performance, and business needs and requirements. Our current practice requires in-office work for all employees for a minimum of three days per week. Business needs and initial onboarding may require additional days in the office.

BUILDING COMMUNITY: Denver Community Planning and Development (CPD) is responsible for visionary city planning and ensuring safe, responsible, sustainable building. CPD is recruiting for a City Planning Supervisor of Catalytic Projects for our Site Design and Neighborhood Development Catalytic Projects team within our Development Services Division. The Catalytic Projects team is responsible for coordinating the citywide development review response across a multitude of project scales focused primarily on large scale development and Adaptive ReUse projects. This position will be responsible for leading and working across interagency workgroups responsible for site plan review and approval, large development frameworks, infrastructure master plans, and adaptive reuse projects. The varied work programs, project deliverables, associated timelines, and desired outcomes result in a dynamic environment focused on delivering great customer service and built outcomes that shape the future of Denver. We need a forward-thinking, innovative, well-organized leader with experience navigating competing internal and external pressures to supervise and support current functions and embrace opportunities to build our team culture and service.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Work directly within our leadership structure to support, encourage, and grow our highly skilled team

  • Coordinate with City Agencies to facilitated coordinated development review outcomes

  • Directly supervise workgroups responsible for Large Development Review and Adaptive ReUse, which includes: supporting professional development and training, overseeing schedules and workloads, setting goals and evaluating performance, recruiting and retaining staff

  • Manage individual and team workload and performance management, including quality assurance

  • Sustaining and celebrating a workplace culture built on supportive camaraderie and meaningful work

  • Leading your team(s) in creating and updating processes, procedures, guides, or other supportive documents to effectively carry out our workprograms and processes

  • Developing, tracking, and reporting on performance metrics to measure the success of the workprogram and other process improvement

  • Support customer service efforts and initiatives to ensure accurate, timely, and helpful responses to inquiries

  • Experience that demonstrates a multi-disciplinary approach to land use planning and development

  • Experience documenting and/or creating process and procedures

  • Focus on delivering continuous process improvements

  • Strong leadership and project management skills

  • Creative and strategic approach to solving unique project challenges

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, BlueBeam, Adobe Acrobat, and permit processing software such as Accela

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to present to diverse audiences; Excellent strategic communication skills

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirement: Bachelors Degree in City or Regional Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Engineering, Public Administration, or a related degree

  • Experience Requirement: Seven (7) years of professional planning experience

  • Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education

  • Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements
