SUN FOREST CONSTRUCTION, Central Oregons most longstanding and diversified custom home builder and remodeling company well known for its integrity, quality and service has an opening available for a Lead Carpenter to join our Custom Home department. The candidates we are seeking will have the knowledge and skills that include the following:
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, performs demolition, excavation, and constructs, erects, installs and/or repairs interior and exterior structures and fixtures of wood, plywood and wallboard, conforming to residential building codes and Sun Forest quality standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have basic set of hand and power tools.
5 years of experience in a residential carpentry position.
Must be approved to wear a respirator using OSHA guidelines.
Valid Oregon driver's license and driving record that meets insurance requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Must have detailed knowledge of all aspects of interior trim, stair systems, & installation of different types of trim styles.
Must have solid understanding of site preparation/layout, excavation, and concrete work for additions.
Must have detailed knowledge of all aspects of residential framing (wood and light steel construction); floor and wall systems; truss and stick-built roof systems; exterior envelop (various types of cladding / finishes, windows, doors, and roofing); and interior (backing, preparation for finishes, wall straightening, etc).
Must be able to make supervisory decisions while upholding SFC standards and production timeline.
Detailed knowledge of codes pertaining to interior trim and stair systems.
Must have a thorough knowledge of carpenter tools and practices.
Must have a thorough understanding of wood sanding procedure, including knowledge of wood grain, sandpaper specifications and grits, and hand power sanding tools.
Must have thorough knowledge of standard finish carpenter techniques, such as specialty trims, closet and storage systems.
Must be able to cut and install all types of trim work, hang all types of doors, install base, paneling, and complete specialty trim work such as mantels and built in cabinets.
Must have a working knowledge of architectural drawings and specifications.
Must have a general knowledge of international building codes and allowable construction techniques.
Must have high ethical standards & be able to uphold Sun Forests excellent reputation in the business community
Must have the physical ability to meet the demands of the position, which include standing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing on 20 ft. ladders and roof slopes (restrained), & reaching, Must be able to work productively for long periods of time at all required working heights usually in the range of 0-30 feet above the ground or nearest building level surface. Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds. Will occasionally be exposed to severe weather conditions, and be around construction dust, occasional paint and lacquer fumes, and construction noise. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions within the limits of the physical demands of this position.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Performs interior or exterior repair, remodel or new construction carpentry work as assigned. This could include preparing drawings, material take-offs, framing, siding, cabinet installation, appliance installation, demolition, interior trim, stair systems, closet packages, and hardware installation.
2. Uses knowledge of building codes and construction practices to perform assigned tasks correctly.
3. Responsible for maintaining quality and production standards on jobs assigned.
4. Maintain a clean, safe job site at all times.
5. Helps train and supervise junior level carpenters and apprentices.
6. Represents Sun Forests best interests with employees and subcontractors and reports any issues of concern to Project Managers.
7. Exhibits good judgment, high ethical standards, & reliability at all times, and represents Sun Forest reputably with our clients, staff, suppliers, business associates, and in the community.
