POSITION SUMMARY:
Raises, modifies, places and bolts or welds structural-steel members to form completed structures or structure frameworks, working as member of crew.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Read and interpret measuring tools such as, tape measure, speed square, framing square...etc. In order to perform task accurately.
Fully Understand Plant North and drawing directional.
Assist in setting up hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural-steel members.
Assist in fastening steel members to cable of hoist, cable, slings or rope.
Assist in guiding member, using tag line (rope). Pulls, pushes, or pries steel members into approximate position while member is supported by hoisting device.
Assist in forcing members into final position, using turnbuckles, sleever bars, come alongs, jacks, and hand tools.
Assist in aligning holes in member with corresponding holes in previously placed member by drifting drift pins or handle of wrench through holes. Align bolt holes with spud wrenches, sleever bars, bull pins and/or drift pins.
Assist in bolting aligned members to keep them in position until they can be permanently bolted or welded in place.
Assist in cutting and welding of steel members to make modifications using oxyacetylene torch, cut off wheels, porta bans and (arc) electric welding equipment.
Work in other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by project supervision. Must have the ability to take direction from a higher skilled worker or foreman.
Must have basic knowledge of the construction processes involved in heavy industrial construction.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
3-4 years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum 3 years of experience in helper role
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Be knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs and project specific regulations.
When on-site, actively participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors.
Set a personal example of safe behavior.
Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
Add and subtract two-digit numbers, multiply and divide with 10's and 100's and ability to perform these operations using units weight measurement and volume
Common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form
Ability to work within precise standards of accuracy and follow set procedures
