Reporting Structure for:** Assistant Drainage Engineer- Department Administrator: Drainage Engineer- First-level Supervisor: Drainage Engineer ** ** **General Purpose for Job: **Design drainage facilities and oversee construction and maintenance projects.**DUTIES:***(The duties listed below are illustrative of the work performed by this classification. All duties are essential functions of the job unless otherwise noted. The percentage of time allocated to each group of duties is approximate.)*- **60% - Petition ditch process and hearings, preparing necessary materials** - Prepare maps, notices, and estimates for hearings - Develop and design basic to complex engineering plans for the replacement, maintenance and rehabilitation of ditches and drainage systems - Analyze plans submitted by contract engineering firms - Perform surveys and inspections - Monitor ditch construction projects```{=html}```- **25% - Design ditches and drainage systems** - Designs/engineers basic to complex plans for the replacement, maintenance and rehabilitation of ditches and drainage systems - Calculate and design ditch contours and elevations - Prepare project plans, estimates and specifications - Maintain construction design and engineering records - Review drainage calculations for compliance and issue permits```{=html}```- **15% - Miscellaneous** - Prepare topographic maps, watershed maps and historic data - Prepare reports of designs and historical information regarding drainage systems - Locate existing tile - Develop landowner lists - Assist drainage crews with solutions for drainage problems - Work cooperatively with other co-workers, agencies, departments and the general public to support the Engineer's mission to serve the public - Attend and actively participate in department and other meetings - Gather and compile data as requested by supervisor - Define problems, collect data, establish facts and recommend appropriate response or action - Communicate effectively and courteously with others both verbally and in writing - Perform work of a physical nature for short periods of time - Perform other related duties as assigned** ****Minimum Education and Experience:**- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or civil engineering technology- Five years' work experience that included responsibility for designing roadways, managing inspection and repair programs, and coordinating the work of contractors.*A different combination of education and experience may be acceptable if deemed equivalent.*** ****Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:**- Operate these and similar tools and equipment for a standard work shift, in accordance with customary operating and safety practices: **Representative Tools and Equipment****Used for:****Office Equipment and Software** AutoCADCreating and updating drawings and plansArcMap/ArcGISCreating and updating maps, databases, etc.FreeAnceSearching for parcel and owner informationPersonal computer; Microsoft OfficePreparin
