Job Description
AECOM Technical Services, Inc., Project Bridge Design Engineer III, Houston, TX: Input all the required information for the design of concrete beams such as the Roadway horizontal curves, Super elevations, Vertical curves, beam geometry etc. in PGSuper, a Texas Department of Transportations prestressed concrete girder design software. Design the concrete beams in PGSuper, a Texas Department of Transportations prestressed concrete girder design software, and ensure they have adequate number of strands and concrete strength required to take the loads acting on them. Code the geometry of the bridge in BGS, Texas Department of Transportations Bridge Geometry software and extract all the required information that needs to go into the plan sheets such as Bearing seat elevations, bent reports, beam reports etc. Model the substructure in Bentley LEAP Bridge software and apply all the possible loads that would act on this structure during its service. Take the resultant forces generated by the LEAP Bridge software at the base of the column and perform a Column design using SPColumn software. Calculate the Drilled shaft length required using soil parameters provided by Geotech team. Take the resultant forces generated by the LEAP Bridge software at the top of the Drilled shafts and Analyze the Drilled shafts in LPile software for both strength and serviceability requirements and calculate the required reinforcement. Take the resultant forces generated by the LEAP Bridge software on the bent cap and Calculate the required reinforcement and concrete strength for the bent cap based on Flexure and Shear. Calculate material quantities required for the construction of the bridge according to the design. Design retaining walls and other drainage structures like Culverts, Junction boxes etc. Perform calculations to determine the Controlling elevations of the bridge based on geometry. Perform calculations to determine if the standard elastomeric bearings and expansion joints are adequate for that particular bridge. Perform a check on Column-Drilled shaft interface in SPColumn software and determine the number of dowels required. Review Shop drawings and ensure they match with the design. Perform complex designs for the footings using Strut and Tie methods. Respond to RFIs during construction phase of the project. Participate in Value Engineering studies as a subject matter expert for Texas Department of Transportation and provide general/design recommendations in the preliminary phase of the project. Provide Knowledge transfer of various bridge design software and bridge design procedures to Entry level bridge design engineers. Collaborate with other Structural Engineers, Roadway Engineers, Drainage Engineers, Project Managers, and other discipline leads in developing and assessing developed designs and alternatives. Perform thorough Quality checks on the designs produced by Entry level engineers. Perform thorough Quality checks on the drawings produced by detailing personnel. Develop a project design schedule and closely monitor the progress of work performed by various Engineers in Training. Coordinate with detailing personnel on a daily basis and communicate the bridge design details to make sure drawings are in sync with design.
