Utility Project Manager Our client is seeking a Utility Project Manager to support innovative energy technology demonstrations within a Smart Grid Test Bed initiative. This individual will play a pivotal role in managing and supporting distributed energy resource (DER) projects, including smart solar, EV charging, and smart thermostats, among others. The position involves working closely with technical staff, cross-functional teams, and external stakeholders, including vendors and government partners. This role is a hybrid model in Portland, Oregon. Utility Project Manager Responsibilities Lead and manage smart grid demonstration projects from planning through execution, including scope, schedule, budget, and risk management. Collaborate with team leads and technical staff to ensure timely and accurate delivery of field and customer-facing initiatives. Oversee day-to-day project execution activities, including coordination of deliverables, resource planning, and mitigation of risks or issues. Coordinate vendor engagements, including contract negotiation, execution, and ongoing management. Conduct regular team meetings, track action items, and provide consistent follow-up with internal and external stakeholders. Prepare and present project updates, KPIs, and progress reports to senior leadership. Maintain well-organized documentation in SharePoint, including meeting notes, stakeholder communications, and project artifacts. Support strategic planning efforts for future use cases and demonstration capabilities. Occasionally travel to local vendor offices and project field sites as needed. Utility Project Manager Qualifications Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred. 5-10 years of experience in project management within the utility industry, particularly related to technology implementation or customer programs. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesize and present technical and strategic content. Proven self-starter with strategic planning capabilities and a proactive approach to managing tasks and priorities. Familiarity with utility-specific financial tracking, budgets, and reporting. Experience coordinating with external vendors, internal teams, and government or nonprofit partners. Preferred experience with Distributed Energy Resources (DER), utility customer programs, and budget oversight. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred, but not required.
