Overview

TRC is seeking a Senior Civil Project Manager to join our Civil, Municipal and Facilities team in the Calgary, AB office. This career-oriented position requires providing operational, permitting, compliance, design, and construction services to a wide variety of clients. You will bring expert technical knowledge, an entrepreneurial spirit, business acumen and a desire to develop a thriving civil practice to grow TRC’s Canadian presence. You will assist our existing international clients as well as develop and foster relationships with new, local clients.

Our engineering staff provide engineering design and technical support on challenging projects including water and wastewater municipal infrastructure, site design and land development, roadways, renewable energy and industrial development. In this position, the successful candidate will apply their existing knowledge to develop and increase TRC’s presence in the Calgary market. The candidate will develop staff while working as part of a dynamic and fast-paced team. The ideal candidate has experience leading and executing design deliverables and is an expert project manager. A desire to work with internal business development professionals and senior managers to establish and grow a sustainable client base is required. This position will also assist our U.S. clients.

Responsibilities

  • Fostering relationships with new Calgary based clients, engage in business development efforts, including being active in professional organizations.
  • Use your knowledge and understanding of the engineering consulting business to develop a competitive civil engineering practice.
  • Manage the work performance for multiple dynamic projects, develop solutions to project challenges, and communicate proactively with senior executives.
  • Oversee all technical and design aspects of land development, municipal and industrial projects, including water, wastewater, stormwater and roadway systems, grading and erosion/sedimentation plans in accordance with applicable local, provincial, or federal regulations.
  • Attend and present project designs and applications at various Planning Board meetings
  • Work with designers and permitting specialists to prepare civil site design packages for a wide variety of projects supporting private developers, commercial/industrial facilities, and municipal infrastructure that comply with applicable local, provincial and federal regulations
  • Manage tasks and delegate tasks to staff and subcontractors.
  • Prepare and manage budgets, schedules, invoicing, subcontractor procurement and oversight.
  • Oversee fieldwork and contractor oversight to perform construction quality assurance.
  • Assist clients in addressing their project development challenges and goals by working with project teams across multiple disciplines to perform site-specific analyses and assessments
  • Apply quality assurance and quality control procedures
  • Work directly with clients professionally and display a service-oriented attitude

Qualifications

  • A minimum of fifteen (15) years’ experience with Professional Engineering APEGA license
  • Undergraduates Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Well regarded in the Calgary municipal development market.
  • Experience overseeing and developing a civil engineering group or practice.
  • Ability to make decisions and perform as an independent thinker and leader, but also collaborate with project team personnel
  • Strong technical writing and data management, organizational, and communication skills
  • Experience with the development and implementation of infrastructure technical plans, designs, and specifications
  • Experience independently analyzing and interpreting data regarding site uses and topography to develop infrastructure management plans and best management practices
  • A strong understanding of local, provincial, and federal level permitting for a variety of development types including infrastructure permitting and town/city site plan review applications
  • Client service skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Position Requirements:

  • U.S. civil design experience desired.
  • Experience in performing engineer’s estimates of probable cost for infrastructure, land development, and roadway activities utilizing both RS Means and contractor contacts
  • Experience performing construction monitoring and oversight
  • Proven direct infrastructure, and roadway contractor working relationships

Compensation : In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.

Other Compensation: Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company’s annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
