Electrical Project Engineer

Large utility is looking for a Project Engineer in Either Livonia MI or surrounding regional office locations (Jackson, Lansing, Macomb, etc). An Electrical Project Engineer with extensive experience in substation layout design is sought to lead and support high-voltage distribution projects across Michigan, requiring a Bachelor's degree in engineering (ABET or non-ABET), field and design expertise, proficiency in MicroStation, ProjectWise, SAP, and deep knowledge of utility codes, electrical systems, and project execution, along with excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills. responsibilities:

• Lead multiple substation layout engineering projects across Michigan's Lower Peninsula.
  
  
• Serve as the subject matter expert for substation layout engineering within the organization.
  
  
• Define and develop engineering and construction scope for substation capital projects.
  
  
• Coordinate internal and external engineering design efforts, ensuring alignment with project objectives.
  
  
• Provide technical review and guidance throughout all phases of project execution.
  
  
• Partner with project managers for procurement, contracting, and construction support.
  
  
• Conduct field visits for pre-engineering assessments, milestone inspections, and final walk-downs.
  
  
• Ensure safety while working around energized substations and active construction sites.
  
  
• Prepare specifications for electrical materials and estimate costs for budgeting.
  
  
• Ensure projects meet relevant codes, standards, and customer requirements.
  
  
• Direct construction, manufacturing, installation, maintenance, documentation, and testing efforts.

• Knowledge of the theory and practice of electric utility distribution planning, construction, operation, and maintenance Expert Knowledge.
  
  
• Working knowledge of electric utility operation (i.e. generation, transmission and distribution of three phase alternating current power) Expert Knowledge.
  
  
• Knowledge of distribution planning principles is an asset Expert Knowledge.
  
  
• Software experience with Microstation, ProjectWise, SAP.

Education:

• Bachelor's Degree in from an ABET accredited program or
  
  
• Engineering degree from a non-ABET accredited program.
