Yard Foreman

We are currently looking to add a Yard Foreman to our growing team at our Edmonton Distribution Centre. Our team is made up of Labourers, Equipment Operators, Liquid Transloaders, Drivers, Foreman, Yard Supervisors, Health & Safety, and Office Staff. The Foreman will be responsible for the day-to-day coaching & direction of the transload employees in the safe and productive yard performance in the transfer to/from of liquid, bulk & material product transfer into/from rail to trailing equipment.

This facility operates 7 days a week 24 hours a day with rotating shifts of days & nights.

Position Responsibilities:

• Coaching and directing all yard operations staff with a Safety 1st approach, by preparing shift assignments, providing support for difficult or new tasks, cross training staff, etc.
• Leading throughout the shift day the various functions within the Yard including liquid and dry bulk commodity rail transfers, bulk product loading, offloading of commodities from rail cars and loading of commodities onto deck trailers, ensuring the standard operating procedures and best practices are being followed.
• Operate various equipment such as forklifts, loaders, pumps, rail king, shunt tractors.
• Coordinating and updating dispatch and office staff of work in progress and complete necessary documents.
• Providing input and ideas, as part of a team, with the other Foreman, Yard Supervisor and the Manager, Transload Operations to identify improvements in the operations and handling procedures including process, capital, and labour.
• Liaise with drivers and contractors on site to aid and respond to questions regarding trailers, dunnage, load securement, etc.
• Apply company policies & regulations including human resources, health & safety, etc.
• At times, there may be tasks that may require respiratory protection and may require to be part of face to be clean shaven to ensure sufficient protection.

What We Look For:

• Working knowledge of operational procedures related to various tasks in transloading, equipment operation, loaders/forklift, locomotive, etc. specific to yard operation and rail/truck operations.
• Working knowledge of the range of products handled at the facility (steel/lumber/etc.) is an asset.
• Effective leadership skills in communication and direction of work to employees and demonstrate ability to delegate and train shift crew.
• Strong commitment to Safety.
• Good work attitude and willingness to learn.
• Demonstrated attendance and ability to meet shift rotation schedule and overtime as maybe required.
• Training and experience in forklift and loaders is a requirement. As well as the ability to successfully complete locomotive training.
• Must be in good physical shape to assist yard staff as required, with an ability to lift up to 50 lbs and able to work in all weather conditions.
• Must have reliable transportation to and from work ( no public transportation available )
• As this is a safety-sensitive position, candidates will be required to comply with our Controlled Substances policy ( pre-employment/post-incident drug test is required )
