Job Description/Tasks/Responsibilities

  • Manages the activities of an Operations unit(s) at an EnergySolutions site/facility/project and ensures compliance with safety, quality, production efficiency, customer service and company financial goals. Is responsible for planning and directing budgets and business goals and objectives. Develops and ensures implementation of operations policies, procedures and standards and ensures compliance with local, state and federal regulations. Sets priorities for projects.
  • Manages Operations activities at an EnergySolutions site/facility/project using best industry practices. Develops and implements Operations policies, procedures and standards and takes steps to ensure company objectives are met and maintained. These tasks are necessary to ensure smooth company operations and compliance with company policies and procedures and local, state and federal regulations.
  • Is responsible for directing the activities of Operations supervisors and/or foremen. Holds daily planning meetings to prioritize workload and allocate necessary equipment and personnel. Identifies available resources and assigns tasks to subordinates.
  • Holds daily and weekly meetings with supervisors and/or foremen, operators and operations-related workers to discuss safety, compliance and forecasted events. Reviews operations and maintenance schedules.
  • Reviews material/product quantities on hand and on order. Reviews and approves purchase orders and vendor/contractor agreements. Evaluates operational needs and submits purchase requests for necessary machinery, equipment and tools.
  • Records daily production levels, materials usage and man hours. Reviews activity reports and financial statements to determine progress and status in attaining objectives and reviews contract labor costs and vendor supply costs to ensure best prices. Monitors project activities to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Performs safety and compliance inspections of work areas and facilities on a weekly basis. Oversees the installation, repair and upkeep of machinery, equipment and tools. Maintains the integrity, safety and security of facility structures, equipment and machinery.
  • Uses statistical data and charts to compare or contrast the performance and costs of a process, specific projects or general trends of the operation. Prepares reports, analyzes data and makes recommendations for improving operations and solving operations-related problems.
  • Evaluates and implements process improvements to determine feasibility or effectiveness. Drafts and modifies procedures as necessary to address process improvements and changes to permitted requirements.
  • Researches and develops new technologies and methods of operation to remain competitive in the industry.
  • Maintains stakeholder relations, including visiting customer sites and responding to, customer requirements. Conducts facility tours for regulators, auditors and other visitors.
  • Drafts operational work permits and conducts job hazard analyses.
  • Assists Business Development by consolidating data to determine actual costs of forecasted projects being bid on.
  • Coordinates facilities, equipment and personnel in emergency situations to ensure safety. Reviews/resolves personnel issues.
  • Manages staff selection, development and retention. Establishes and monitors work goals and objectives. Evaluates employees through performance reviews, ongoing coaching and feedback methods.
  • Ensures Operations staff are adequately trained, equipped and motivated so Operations activities can be accomplished in a safe, timely and cost-effective manner. Maintains and updates operating and training manuals for the Operations unit(s).
  • Trains, develops and motivates subordinates to improve their present performance and to prepare for higher-level jobs. Determines significant changes in responsibilities and major tasks of subordinates by reviewing job responsibilities on a regular basis.
  • Reviews salaries of subordinates and recommends changes when warranted. Recommends promotions, transfers, demotions and discharges. Maintains discipline and recommends corrective action as warranted.
  • Provides direction and guidance to Operations staff on operations-related matters.
  • Administers budget according to plan. Monitors budget variances. Provides explanations on variances and takes appropriate action.
  • Follows organizational policies and procedures and ensures staff is in compliance.

  • Ability to manage and/or monitor multiple projects and activities occurring simultaneously
  • Ability to work with employees at all organizational levels

Physical/Mental Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Ability to use hands and feet to accomplish tasks as assigned
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, bend/stoop, crouch and squat/kneel
  • Ability to effectively communicate; speaking, reading, understanding, writing and hearing clear English; pass audiogram in hearing conservation program as required by location
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to see close and distance, basic colors/shades, and peripheral vision
  • Ability to work inside an office, outside, in extreme temperatures, in humid or dry conditions, and below ground or in confined spaces
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions and environments wherein there is exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, noxious odors, gases, chemicals and mechanical and electrical hazards
  • Ability to wear a respirator
  • Ability to operate equipment/machinery, power tools, moving objects/hazardous machines, and slippery/uneven walking surfaces
  • Ability to work alone, work with others, and interact with the public; perform under deadline pressure

Minimum Education, Experience and Certification Requirements Education

  • High School diploma or GED
  • An associate's degree in science or waste management/treatment preferred

Certifications

  • A valid driver's license with a clean record required
  • Evidence of insurability required

Required Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial operations
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience as a foreman in an operations, radioactive waste management or hazardous materials handling and treatment environment
  • A minimum of 3 years of working knowledge and experience with state and/or federal regulations/regulators
