The Serve fleet has been delighting merchants, customers, and pedestrians along the way in Los Angeles while doing commercial deliveries. We're looking for talented individuals who will grow robotic deliveries from surprising novelty to efficient ubiquity.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the creation of comprehensive test plans and procedures, outlining the necessary testing methodologies, equipment, and success criteria to evaluate mechanical systems, components, and assemblies

  • Design and set up testing environments and rigs to simulate real-world usage conditions, ensuring accurate data collection and analysis for performance assessment

  • Execute a wide range of mechanical tests, including but not limited to stress testing, vibration analysis, thermal testing, and durability assessments

  • Document and communicate test results, identifying issues, deviations, and potential areas of improvement; Present findings to the broader engineering team in a clear and concise manner.

  • Design and document mechanical and electromechanical CAD assemblies for the next generation robots. Perform tolerance stack up analysis.

  • Build and maintain SOP's and BOM's; Perform hands on prototyping using tools such as laser cutters, 3D printers, and hand tools to fabricate parts and build assemblies.

  • Work closely with manufacturing to improve procedures and design fixtures / tools to improve assembly efficiency and scale. Perform quality control checks on critical mechanical parts;

  • Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot robot fleet issues and clearly communicate improvements to leadership; and Support builds at offsite vendor(s), document improvements and manage build Configurations.

  • Requires up to 25% US and International travel required for contract manufacturer and supplier hardware support. Telecommuting may be permitted.

  • When not telecommuting, must report to Serve Operating Co, 730 Broadway, Redwood City, CA 94063.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree or U.S. equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or related field, plus 5 years of professional experience as a Mechanical Engineer or any occupation/position/job title involving performing engineering design for robotics or high reliability products.

  • Must also have the following special skills:

  • 5 years of professional experience utilizing 3D CAD software including Solidworks and creating engineering drawing incorporating GD&T

  • 5 years of professional experience developing components for manufacturing techniques including CNC machining, additive manufacturing, sheet metal fabrication, or injection molding and casting

  • 5 years of professional experience performing hardware development and integration, mechanical design, and prototyping

  • 5 years of professional experience performing development and production planning with Contract Manufacturers

  • 5 years of professional experience utilizing product and usability test and measurement tools

  • 4 years of professional experience performing wire harness and cable assembly design; and 4 years of professional experience working with Agile methodology and software tools including JIRA, Smartsheet, and G Suite.
