Job Summary: The Production Supervisor is responsible for leading and overseeing daily operations within the Sheet Metal Fabrication department, supporting the production of custom signage components. This role ensures efficient workflows, team development, and the consistent output of high-quality fabricated parts used in sign manufacturing. Emphasizing lean manufacturing and Six Sigma principles, the Supervisor will focus on improving productivity, resolving quality and personnel issues, and driving operational excellence across key processes such as cutting, forming, welding, grinding, and basic assembly.

Responsibilities
- Supervise and lead a team of sheet metal fabricators producing components for custom signs, ensuring performance, safety, and quality standards are consistently met.
- Collaborate with the Production Manager to optimize workflows, implement training, and resolve personnel or production concerns within the fabrication area.
- Apply lean manufacturing and Six Sigma practices to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance output quality in sign fabrication.
- Oversee the execution of daily production schedules, ensuring timely delivery of fabricated components aligned with project timelines and quality standards.
- Ensure team members are trained on the proper use of fabrication equipment including press brakes, shears, punches, welders, and grinders.
- Monitor production progress, make real-time adjustments to meet deadlines, and ensure alignment with downstream departments in the sign manufacturing process.
- Identify and resolve quality issues, collaborating with Engineering and Quality teams to implement corrective actions.
- Support inventory and material control, ensuring the correct metal types, gauges, and quantities are available for production.
- Analyze performance data and lead improvement initiatives that enhance team efficiency and product quality.
- Foster a positive, team-oriented culture rooted in safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Skills and Competencies
- Proven leadership and supervisory experience within a sheet metal fabrication or custom manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes as they apply to custom sign manufacturing, including forming, welding, grinding, and assembly.
- Proficiency in lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to coach team members and resolve conflicts effectively.
- Highly organized, capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, project-driven production environment.
- Familiarity with production scheduling, quality assurance practices, and basic inventory management.
Education, experience, certifications
- Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in a sheet metal fabrication or custom manufacturing setting, preferably within the sign industry.
- Experience with lean manufacturing and Six Sigma tools and techniques.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional certifications in manufacturing leadership, lean, or Six Sigma are a plus.
- Experience in the custom sign manufacturing industry strongly preferred.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
- Ability to work on the production floor and assist with hands-on fabrication tasks as needed.
- Must be able to lift, move, and manipulate materials and operate equipment safely.
- Regular exposure to loud machinery, sharp materials, and typical fabrication shop conditions.
- Capable of thriving in a deadline-driven environment with frequent changes in project scope and production needs.
