Forklift Operator and Material Handler Job Description We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Shipping Clerk to support shipping operations at our facility. This role involves a combination of clerical responsibilities in the shipping office and hands-on work operating a forklift in the yard. The Shipping Clerk is responsible for preparing accurate shipping documents, assisting with truck loading coordination, and ensuring materials are staged and shipped correctly and safely. Responsibilities Prepare and print Bills of Lading (BOLs) and other required shipping documents. Verify orders against shipping paperwork to ensure accuracy in product, quantity, and destination. Operate a forklift to stage and load finished lumber products for outbound shipments. Safely and efficiently handle packaged goods, ensuring correct placement and load configuration. Assist in verifying that loaded trucks meet customer specifications and safety requirements. Communicate with truck drivers and internal yard staff to ensure timely and organized loading. Report any issues with loads, product availability, or documentation to the Shipping Lead or Supervisor. Enter shipment details into inventory or shipping software systems. Track shipping activity and help ensure inventory records reflect accurate outgoing quantities. Assist with filing and updating internal shipping logs and delivery records. Submit daily receiving/shipping report detailing inbound traffic, outbound traffic, and make-up shipments. Inspect inbound material using purchase orders and record results. Visually inspect outbound loads for unit count, packaging, and damage. Take photos of damaged inbound material and attach to receiving documents. Monitor for unsafe forklift operation, improper material stacking, and obstructed fire extinguishers. Report emergency breakdowns that would impact production. Contribute to daily housekeeping, including waste separation (plastic, paper, wood, metal, general garbage). Maintain and update daily: Receiving and Shipping Logs, Truck Yard Inventory by Order. Essential Skills Experience moving large, industrial materials using forklift, preferably Hyster Forklift. Documentation for shipping and receiving materials. Computer literacy, can communicate professionally over email with other departments. Previous shipping and receiving software experience, open to type of software used in the past. Data entry and labelling. Additional Skills & Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. 1-2 years of experience in a shipping or warehouse role, preferably in lumber or manufacturing. Forklift certification required (or willingness to obtain upon hire). Familiarity with Bills of Lading and basic shipping documentation practices. Strong computer skills, including data entry, shipping/receiving documentation, and communication with other departments via email. Strong attention to detail and time management skills. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Schedule & Pay Day shift, Monday - Friday 7am - 3:30pm Pay $20-$25 depending on experience Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $25.00/hr.
