Tyto Athene is searching for a Cable Technician - Journeyman to support U.S. Southern Command on the SCITES II Contract in Doral, Florida.
The Journeyman Cable Technician i nstalls, terminates, and tests structured cabling systems to support USSOUTHCOMs communication and network infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
- Assists in configuring fiber optic and copper cabling, ensuring compliance with industry standards and operational requirements
- Performs troubleshooting and maintenance to sustain network reliability and optimize performance
- Supports the implementation of security measures to protect cabling infrastructure while maintaining scalability and interoperability
- Works alongside senior technicians and engineers to integrate new technologies and resolve technical issues
- Conducts routine inspections, system assessments, and compliance audits to align cabling operations with cybersecurity, disaster recovery, and continuity of operations (COOP) strategies
- Provides Tier 2 technical support, responding to service requests and assisting in repairs and installations
- Supports the execution of cable infrastructure projects, including pulling, routing, and labeling cables for enterprise systems
- Assists in stress testing cabling infrastructure to validate system resilience and mission readiness
- Collaborates with service desks and network teams to maintain operational effectiveness and support mission-critical connectivity
Required:
- Associatess degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or related field
- 4-9 years of structured cabling experience in commercial, government, or data center environments
- Familiarity with cable color codes, punch-down blocks, fiber terminations, and cable certification
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces
Desired:
- Bachelors degree in related field
- BICSI Technician or Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certification
- Experience working in DoD, SCIF, or other high-security environments
- Familiarity with DoD Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) and installation standards
- Experience with network hardware installation (e.g., routers, switches, UPS systems)
- Understanding of signal flow, impedance, attenuation, and return loss
- Proficiency using Fluke or similar cable certification testers
- Experience with AutoCAD, Visio, or cable documentation software
- Knowledge of grounding/bonding techniques per IEEE and MIL-STD standards
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and network schematics
- Fiber Optic Technician Certification
- BICSO Installer 1 or 2
Clearance:
- Secret clearance required with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI
Certification:
- DoD 8570 Baseline & CE certifications are required for all positions and may vary slightly depending on the skillset required to perform the role
- CompTIA Security+ CE
