About Senior Mechanic:
Responsible for the repair and maintenance of light and heavy equipment.
- Repairs and maintains pickups, tractors, trucks, motor graders, excavators, dozers, rollers, and other heavy equipment.
- Fabricates parts for equipment as needed.
- Removes and installs engines, clutches and steering assemblies and other difficult jobs.
- Removes major parts of gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions and drive trains and makes repairs subject to guidance and inspection.
- Diagnoses and traces electrical and electronic failures and makes necessary repairs.
- Diagnoses and repairs air conditioning/heating systems.
- Repairs and replaces brakes and cooling systems.
- Diagnoses and repairs fuel injection systems and replaces fuel pumps.
- Diagnoses and repairs hydraulic pumps, cylinders, and lines.
- Installs and repairs snow equipment such as plows, wings, and sanders.
- Removes, repairs, and replaces crawler tracks.
- Installs a variety of parts such as clutches, truck springs, hydraulic cylinders, hoses, etc.
- Performs major overhauls on gasoline and diesel engines.
- Performs in-shop and on-the-road welding.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned to help drive a high level of customer satisfaction, fulfill the Countys mission and Strategic Direction, and abide by the Linn County Core Values.
- Performs a variety of physical tasks associated with maintenance and repair of equipment including bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, climbing, twisting, crawling, reaching, and sitting. Stand and walk frequently, sometimes on uneven and unstable surfaces such as at construction sites, roadway, or ditch embarkments. Work may be performed under adverse weather conditions and terrain.
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate's degree in Automotive Technology, Diesel Technology, or a related field preferred.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in the diagnosis, repair and maintenance of pickups, heavy trucks and construction equipment required.
- Possess a valid state of Iowa Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with no air brake, manual transmission or tractor-trailer restrictions and a tank endorsement. Or possession of Class A CDL and the ability to pass air brake, manual transmission, tractor-trailer restrictions and a tank endorsement within 90 days of transfer or hire into the position.
