Your Purpose:

Seeking experienced Engineer, with extensive hands-on skills working with Medium and Low Voltage equipment. Candidate will report to the Melt Shop Superintendent and will work closely with Reliability and Automation operational units in a steel mill environment. The candidate will support process optimization in relation to medium/low voltage equipment in the Melt Shop including EAF and LMF transformer, electrical infrastructure, Statcom, PLCs, furnace regulators, secondary equipment, and general Melt Shop projects. Ideal candidate will have hands-on experience troubleshooting technical issues related to industrial and manufacturing equipment. This position requires a strong understanding of safety policies and standards that are applicable for industrial operations. The Engineer will be leading and participating in many team orientated work groups. The candidate will be process-oriented and can adapt to a fast-paced and changing environment. Strong leadership, communications, data collection and presentation skills are required.

The Improvement Facilitator will identify opportunities for process and production improvements within the area of responsibility. The incumbent will be responsible for developing, approving and implementing standards from these efforts. This could include designing and developing new or making alterations to existing systems and equipment.

The incumbent will be responsible for developing and implementing activities that support the annual action plan including CAPEX projects and is responsible for all data collection and analysis as it pertains to tracking the goals of the projects.

The incumbent will be responsible for assisting with safety related activities within the area including safety hour, safety data entry, safety audit activities, and the promotion of the organizations goals for zero LTAs. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring that all activities comply with all applicable environmental laws, regulations, policies and procedures.

You Have:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in: Electrical Engineering
  • 5 -8 Years of Industrial, Hands-On Experience
  • Bachelor of Science Degree (Preferred)
  • Industrial automation knowledge
  • Project Management Skills in Completing Complex Projects
  • Specialist in at least (1) Engineering Field
  • Basic Auto-Cad and Layout Skills
  • Knowledgeable in Industrial Safety and Construction Methods
  • Efficient in all Microsoft software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc

Your Work:

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Identify opportunities for improvement within his/her area of responsibility and approve standards developed from these efforts
  • Responsible for developing and implementing activities that support the annual action plan specifically as they relate to improvement projects
  • Design or develop new or alterations to existing systems and equipment
  • Provide timely and accurate cost estimates on proposed improvement efforts
  • Support and participate in CAPEX projects
  • Develop and coach employee capabilities and knowledge.
  • Participate and contribute to the achievement of department goals including goal setting
  • Assist with safety related activities within the area.
  • Assist automation team on projects and routines.

DESIRED PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • Familiarity with MV and LV electrical system components: transformers (1 KVA 46 MVA), switchgears, circuit breakers, protective relays, MCC, motors, variable frequency drives
  • Designing, troubleshooting, installation assistance
  • Integration of new technologies to increase safety and reliability of electrical systems
  • Familiar with functionality of a static var compensator for flicker mitigation
  • Ability to determine proper system coordination for breakers, fuses, and other protective devices
  • Read and generate TCC plots
  • Ability to read and generate electrical diagrams (single line and three phase diagrams, controls, etc.)
  • Familiar with relevant IEEE and NEC guidelines
  • Familiar with proper guidelines for maintaining electrical infrastructure
  • Familiar with SKM or ETAP electrical modeling software for analysis and design (transient, arc flash, coordination, short circuit)
