Refrigeration Technician-1st Shift Weekend (DIRECT HIRE)

The Maintenance Technician's role is to ensure the continuous effective freezing and frozen storage of food products and ingredient materials, as well as the cooling of the physical plant buildings. This is achieved through the efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of all plant ammonia and nitrogen refrigeration systems and associated freezers, air conditioning, and chilled water systems. Responsibilities include system operation, preventive maintenance, and mechanical and electrical repair. The work schedule is Friday to Sunday, 6am to 6pm.

Key Accountabilities and Outcomes
  • Maintain logs and other information on operating results and problems.
  • Analyze information to determine a preventive maintenance plan.
  • Troubleshoot problems and physically repair equipment.
  • Use common maintenance hand tools and specialty tools to repair and maintain equipment.
  • Inspect equipment by sight and sound, and read gauges and other measuring devices to assure optimum operating condition.
  • Read equipment manuals, blueprints, and other sources of information to build knowledge and ensure appropriate operation and repair of equipment.
  • Order parts and supplies to maintain or rebuild equipment.
  • Maintain all work areas in a clean manner in line with plant requirements of Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Apply all safe work practices and use all personal safety equipment required to assure personal safety and that of co-workers.
  • Apply all GMP requirements, both personal hygiene and housekeeping, associated with these tasks.
  • Identify problems associated with assigned systems on an ongoing basis through data collection, tracking downtime, and personal inspection.
  • Develop and maintain a good working relationship with team members and co-workers.
  • Cooperate and show commitment to team goals and efforts; attend and participate in team meetings.
  • Follow plant rules and policies and adhere to the Company code of ethics.
  • Assist in orienting and/or training other team members on assigned tasks as requested.
  • Use electrical, pipe fitting, pneumatics, and hydraulics skills to assist or support other maintenance technicians as needed.
Skills/Experience
  • Minimum 1 - 3 years of "hands-on" experience maintaining an industrial ammonia refrigeration system, including vacuum systems, screw compressors, blast freezers, storage freezers, condensers, and chilled water cooling systems required.
  • Experience in maintaining nitrogen flash freezers and Reco and Frigoscandia brand freezers highly desired.
  • Experience in electrical, pipe fitting, hydraulics, and pneumatics is desired.
  • Basic business requirements such as attendance, punctuality, good work habits, and good personal hygiene.
  • Basic education in communication, reading, and arithmetic as learned in high school.
  • Specific technical training in the theory of ammonia refrigeration and nitrogen freezing systems and the mechanical and electrical maintenance of industrial-sized refrigeration systems.
  • Knowledge of microprocessors; 110, 120, 220, and 480 Volt 3-phase AC electricity; pipe cutting, threading, fitting; conduit installation; wiring; pneumatics; hydraulics.
  • Thoroughly skilled in all aspects of the mechanical and electrical maintenance of industrial food freezing systems.
