Gemstar is looking for an experienced Production Supervisor to join the team at our location in Cannon Falls, MN! The schedule for this position is 5/8 hour days supporting our day shift operations (Mon - Fri) . The position is responsible for directing and managing product line operations with responsibilities for safety, quality, delivery, cost, member development, maintenance, and continuous improvement.

A day in the life of a Production Supervisor at Gemstar includes:

  • Managing and leading key plant initiatives including but not limited to Lean /Visual Measures for production control and support-Full Cross training of all production employees including rotational coverage- Kanban deployment for all materials. Daily Gemba walks and kick off meetings
  • Actively participating in and promoting in the areas of Lean Manufacturing techniques, quality, cost reduction, complete and on-time delivery, safety, customer satisfaction, employee relations, visual controls and plant performance measures
  • Managing material requirements through Kanban to ensure reliable material availability.
  • Responsibilities for policy and strategy deployment in areas of safety, quality, delivery, cost/lean manufacturing, customer satisfaction, and employee relations. Ensuring accountability to individual / Team performance expectations and behaviors.
  • Providing leadership regarding employee relations and development through effective communications, coaching, training – cross training and development. Including the development of actions plans resulting from yearly feedback meetings.
  • Actively develops people to take on greater responsibility – including completing yearly performance reviews and informal midyear reviews
  • Supporting new employee orientation and develop a culture that welcomes new employees.
  • Effectively managing capital investments, operating expenses, staffing and wages.
  • Manages the smooth introduction of new products to manufacturing and maintaining plant equipment; partner with maintenance to replace or make adjustments to existing equipment.
  • Pursue and support a culture that values diversity.
  • Drive discipline regarding shop floor organization and cleanliness through 5S deployment - including timely 5S audits of work areas.
  • Models and provides leadership regarding safety and environmental rules and regulations, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Supports the production process by working hands-on and backfilling where necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Abilities

  • 2+ years being responsible for leading people in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong demonstration of value stream management and collaboration skillset.
  • Strong people leadership, coaching, communication, interpersonal, problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Strong understanding of lean manufacturing methods and techniques.
  • Strong project management skills with accountability to deadlines and deliverables
  • Strong adherence to policy and policy deployment
  • Must be highly organized with the ability to perform multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Working knowledge of budgets and financial statements.
  • Knowledge of production scheduling practices.
  • Able to interpret blueprints, drawings, measurements using engineering software
  • Proven ability to lead- effectively manage formal / informal meetings creating effective action plans with follow up/ accountability
  • Must have strong computer skills, particularly in shop floor control, production planning, and inventory control and project management applications.
  • Ability to Proactively influence and adapt to continuous improvement driven change within the plant.
  • Preferred experience in rotational molding and plastic manufacturing

Qualifications – Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering, business or related field and minimum of 2 years’ experience in operations, production leadership, maintenance or related experience preferred OR equivalent combination of education and relevant experience with demonstrated successful performance totaling 10 or more years.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

  • Must be willing to consistently assist employees on the shop floor in order to build teamwork, participate in continuous improvement events, and meet production schedules.
