For over 30 years, Raytheon operates and maintains the Navys 3 over the horizon radars. Each radar consists of a remote transmit and receive site. All radars are operated from the Consolidated Operations Control Center in Chesapeake, Virginia. Each radar is capable of covering over four million square miles across the Caribbean, Eastern Pacific, Central, and South America with all systems manned and operated 24 hours a day. The mission is primarily to track and report the movement of aircraft and ships carrying illicit narcotics from South America toward Central America and the United States.

This Service Contract Act temporary HVAC mechanic opportunity will be working onsite in Premont, TX.

What You Will Do

  • Service and repair electrical and environmental-control systems associated with RADAR systems.

  • The HVAC work includes, but is not limited to the servicing, maintenance, and repair of the following:

    • Cooling systems with strip heat for load and humidity control externally mounted and ducted to the RADAR Power Amplifier (PA) Shelters.

    • Heating and Cooling units externally mounted on RADAR Receiver (Rx) Site Monitor (SM) Shelters and wall heating units mounted internally to PA and SM Shelters.

    • A computer interfaced automation control system used to upload, monitor and control the Automatrix DX-1 controller boards on the Receive Site's HVAC units.

  • Work from commercial manuals, blueprints, drawings, layouts, or other specifications; locating and diagnosing trouble in the electrical/HVAC system or equipment; working standard computations relating to electrical load and refrigeration requirements on electrical and/or HVAC equipment; and using a variety of hand tools, measuring, and testing instruments.

  • Work cooperatively with RADAR Electronics Technicians to solve complex radar system problems involving interrelationship of electrical, electronic, HVAC, and mechanical systems.

  • Candidate will perform all other related duties as assigned and required.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with six years technical experience in installation, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of HVAC and electrical equipment on complex industrial systems.

  • Experience and knowledge in trades such as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, HVAC, and electrical work.

  • Must have a clean motor vehicle driving record to obtain authorization to drive company vehicles.

  • The selected candidate may be subject to a government security investigation, must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information, and must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government issued DoD Secret clearance. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance and to obtain any required Export Authorization.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Universal EPA refrigerant handling certification, HVAC certificate or diploma proving course completion as well as experience with repairs of leaks, knowledge of electrical contrail and refrigerant fundamentals and the ability to evacuate and recharge HVAC systems.

  • Electrical and HVAC License.

  • Previous or current security clearance.

  • Experience with Windows, Microsoft Office, and/or Visio Software.
