Compensation:

Hourly Pay: $20.58 - $24.48

TEMPORARY additional differential of $2.50/hr for all hours worked.

Osawatomie State Hospital is licensed by the State of Kansas to provide care and treatment for adults diagnosed with psychiatric disorders regardless of ability to pay. There are currently two hospitals on the Osawatomie campus in Miami county: Osawatomie State Hospital (OSH) and Adair Acute Care (AAC). Adair Acute Care are a 60-bed facility, certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

All employees are expected to work in a harmonious and cooperative fashion with other staff to provide efficient and effective customer service: to use free time as available to assist other staff in the completion of work assignments and perform other tasks as needed; to contribute to a positive work environment through a positive, helpful, courteous demeanor towards staff, customers and the general public; and to adhere to appropriate standards of conduct regarding the use of leave, reports to work on time and in the designated fashion.

The essential functions of this position may require physical strength to frequently push, pull, twist, bend, squat, walk, stand for extended periods of time, lift and/or restrain residents with or without assistance and respond to aggressive resident behavior with specific, trained techniques. Be able to observe and respond to residents in distress.

Osawatomie State Hospital Adair Acute Care is funded in part by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and is subject to requirements bestowed by Federal and State levels of government conditions of participation.

This is skilled work installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures. The incumbent in this position is to ensure that work is in accordance with relevant codes. May install or service streetlights, intercom systems, or electrical control systems.

Completes special projects and performs other duties as assigned including but not limited to ensuring the agency is adequately staffed during and immediately following natural and/or manmade disasters, infectious disease outbreaks, and/or acts of terrorism. Assists other employees in the work unit in accomplishing assignments as necessary.

The incumbent of this position has authorized access or the potential of incidental exposure to Protected Health Information (PHI) under the provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPQAQA) Privacy Rule. PHI must be treated in accordance with the provisions of the HIPAA Privacy Regulations including requirements for safeguarding, releasing and recording the release of such information. The incumbent has been trained in the provisions of the HIPAA Privacy Regulations as they relate to the duties of this position.

Position Summary & Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT: Must be responsible, dependable and exercise good judgment while maintaining electrical control systems (pneumatic, hydraulic and computerized) for boilers, heating and cooling systems. Maintain and repair public address and intercom systems. Install, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on electric motors on all types of equipment by checking for noisy bearings, worn belts, etc. Clean and lubricate, replace bearings, brushes, starter switches, etc. as needed. Inspect annually and replace if necessary all relay contacts on motor starters, magnetic contactors, and machine tool relays to keep equipment operating efficiently. Test fire detection equipment and emergency and exit lighting monthly as scheduled per Life Safety Code; repair when needed. Assist with emergency generator testing.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: Must be able to approach problems in a methodical manner and exhibit the capability of finding the most effective solutions for problems while maintaining and repairing the complete electrical system of the hospital, both primary (high voltage) and secondary power systems for lighting and power. Repair and maintain high-voltage lines, fuses, link boxes, cutouts, transformers and transformer connections. Clean, lubricate and adjust high-voltage breakers ATS switches so switchgear will operate smoothly. Install, remodel, and update wiring to equipment. Install additional wiring for outlets and lighting for electrical changes. Rewire interior and exterior light fixtures. Cut and shape conduit, determine correct wire needed, make necessary connections to circuit breakers, transformers, disconnects, and electrical equipment, mount motors and lighting fixtures. All work is done in accordance with current NFPA codes. Ability to operate and make changes to generator master control panel. Clean up work area when project is completed.

APPLIANCES: Must be able to utilize effective problem-solving skills while repairing appliances such as buffers, mixers, toasters, fry pans, lamps, can openers, radios, irons, drills, meat slicers, washers, dryers, food grinders, coffee makers, electric ranges, refrigerators, commercial dish washers and pot and pan washers.

MISCELLANEOUS: Must be flexible and possess an ability to adapt to changing circumstances, as this position performs a variety of miscellaneous mechanical repairs, such as electronic imprinters, not covered by other crafts, and other duties as may be assigned.

EMERGENCIES: Must be flexible, as this position will respond when notified by the Power Plant that services are needed after normal working hours. Will report to the Power Plant upon arrival and after completion of work and make permanent repair if possible or temporary repair until job can be completed. Must be comfortable in settings that require clear thinking and must display an enhanced ability to meet changing demands and challenges, while responding to emergencies, including fire, tornado, and patient search drills and will assist in predetermined role according to emergency preparedness procedure in areas as qualified. TRAINING: Attend training offered at the hospital as well as workshops and seminars sponsored by vendors and suppliers to keep abreast of new products and methods.

Qualifications

Licensing & Certification: Valid Driver's License Required

Minimum Requirements: Six months of experience in power plant operation. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.

Preferred Qualifications: Two years of experience in power plant operation. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency. Must be able to perform physical labor, climb stairs, lift and/or move a minimum of 50 lbs. under normal working conditions and exceed this on special assignments and work at heights of 30 feet occasionally.
