Overview
The OSP Design Engineer: Special Projects, is responsible for smaller add on designs / edge outs to existing areas, forced utilities relocation projects, MDU FTTX OSP designs, failed installation reconciliation, documentation, management, budget, and standards of outside plant assets across the Surf Internet footprint.

Responsibilities:
Design and managing the designs of the following:
Small scale design tasks for custom connections or smaller network extensions / market edge outs
MDUs in existing and new markets
Forced Utilities Relocations in DOT and public Rights of Ways
Providing engineering resolutions and reconciliations of customer installs that failed due to fiber/plant design
Manage contract design and engineering resources
Coordinate and communicate with 3rd party engineering, project management, state and local agencies on relocation projects
Assist in permitting by supplying technical information and attending meetings as required
Work with the Network team to ensure timely information exchange in support of proper electronics deployment
Work with Construction Managers and Project Managers to keep records up to date and accurate
Assist in improving automation and streamline processes
Effectively interface and professionally communicate with colleagues across departments under tight timelines
Create simple ad-hoc or presentation-quality maps, depending on the situation, for executive decision makers, sales engineers, account executives and peers
Prepare information in various formats (e.g., maps, spreadsheets, slides) for executive management, sales, construction project management, field operations, and network operations when requested
Balance priorities with consideration for importance and urgency of projects. Quickly switch between numerous small projects, requiring immediate response, and larger projects having multiple steps and longer deadlines
Manage multiple projects with the ability to travel to project within the territory
Support Outside Plant peers across all territories based on overall team workloads
Qualifications
- BS/BA degree in electrical engineering, or civil engineering
(preferred)
- Knowledge and experience in city-scale FTTX Outside Plant design and construction
- Knowledge of a range of software tools for fiber design and management. Vetro Fibermap experience preferred
- Knowledge of available data sources to aid in the design and management of fiber resources
- Familiarity with pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations
- Ability to communicate effectively with Sales, Project Management, and Construction teams
- Ability to Recommend and implement goals, objectives, policies and procedures for mapping, record keeping
- Flexibility and creativity to recommend updates to standards and processes in order to achieve organizational objectives
