Shot Peen Operator Job Description The Shot Peen Operator role requires individuals who are skilled in performing manual and automated shot peen operations on aluminum and steel alloys for aerospace parts. This position involves tasks such as racking, masking, unmasking, and cleaning, with adherence to certified techniques and procedures. Operators must be self-disciplined and detail-oriented, capable of working with limited guidance. Responsibilities Perform manual shot peen operations using cast steel or hard (cut-wire) shot. Operate automated shot peen machines and conduct testing for equipment conformance. Design technique cards for production parts processing methods. Conduct inspections of aerospace production parts for compliance with specifications. Review and assimilate work instructions for racking, cleaning, and masking operations. Execute receiving inspections and report any damage or discrepancies. Utilize personal protective equipment and comply with safety directives. Test and measure shot media quality, documenting results. Rack and turn production parts for shot peening operations. Clean production parts, including degreasing or manual solvent cleaning. Gather necessary supplies such as racks, tooling, baskets, and carts. Work closely with inspectors and area leadership to complete tasks. Clean, organize, and maintain the work area as prescribed by supervision. Complete documentation, count production parts, perform computer scanning, and package for transport. Essential Skills Skill in shot peening and sandblasting. Basic mathematics: add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Understanding of basic geometry for effective peening coverage. Proficient use of measuring and inspection equipment, including digital scales and feeler gauges. Ability to stand for prolonged periods with limited movement. Additional Skills & Qualifications Ability to use PPE such as goggles, safety glasses, aprons, boots, gloves, and hearing protection. Experience with handling chemicals/solvents and exposure to fumes, wet/humid conditions, low-light environments, and moderate noise levels. Capability to perform heavy lifting or use mechanical hoists. Work Environment The work environment is a production facility where operators will be exposed to chemicals, solvents, occasional fumes, wet/humid conditions, low-level lighting, and moderate noise levels.
