By joining our Design Section as a Transportation Engineer II in Fayette County, you'll have the opportunity to manage and oversee the engineering projects to improve transportation facilities.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Coordinate design activities in accordance with department's policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Interpret plans and documents for property owners, local officials, and other stakeholders.
  • Make recommendations concerning planning or design of transportation facilities
  • Prepare estimates for transportation improvements.

Ideal candidate will have experience in:

  • Required to be licensed professional engineer by the Kentucky State Board of Licensure
  • Required to possess a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to multi-task.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: See Special Requirements.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have two years of engineering experience in addition to that required for licensure as a professional engineer.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Master's degree in engineering will substitute for one year of the required experience. Graduate work in engineering beyond a Master's degree will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: NONE

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to appointment in this job classification. Must be licensed as a professional engineer by the Kentucky Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors OR must be licensed in another state with the ability to obtain a Professional Engineering license from Kentucky Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors within the employee's initial six-month probationary period. Engineering decisions recommended by individuals without a Kentucky Professional Engineering License must be approved by a KRS Chapter 322 Licensed Professional Engineer until licensure is obtained. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in the office and in the field. Will be exposed to risks inherent to construction sites which requires the following of safety procedures.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
