SUMMARY

Central Recycling Services a subsidiary of Bering Straits Native Corporation is currently seeking a qualified Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic for its operations in Anchorage Alaska. The Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic will oversee and perform any and all repairs on equipment in the scrap yard and recycle area in accordance with all manufacturers' recommendations, and company policy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Essential Duties and Responsibilities are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed for this position, and are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job.

  • Work with the Equipment Superintendent and Operations Manager's to maintain all Heavy-Duty Equipment and keep it in safe, working order.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records of all work done to equipment.
  • Maintenance may include fueling, lubrication, preventative maintenance, welding, fabrication, repairs and rebuilds
  • Other Duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

Required (Minimum) Qualifications

  • Must have a valid Alaska Driver's License
  • 5+ years of Mechanical experience in Heavy Equipment, including loaders, excavators, and haul trucks.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

  • Knowledge of Cat Operating systems, ability to troubleshoot and repair as necessary
  • Ability to order necessary parts to complete maintenance and repairs as necessary.
  • Ability to work independently without supervision.
  • Ability to work with computers to trouble shoot various systems on light, medium and heavy-duty vehicles.

Preferred

  • Cat Certified Mechanic
  • 15 years mechanical experience
  • Class A CDL

  • This position is not subject to federal requirements regarding Department of Transportation "safety-sensitive" functions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work Environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Job is performed outdoors with almost constant exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, bio hazardous materials, dirt, fumes, smoke and/or loud noises.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • No supervisory responsibilities, provides direct reports.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS

As a condition of employment, will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening, as well as have acceptable reference and background check results. Must have reliable transportation to/from work.
