Job Title: Assistant Estimator
Job Summary: We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Estimator to join our mechanical estimating team in Hudson, MA. This is an entry-level position ideal for someone looking to build a career in construction estimating. You will work closely with experienced estimators to learn how to analyze project documents, perform quantity take-offs, and assist in preparing competitive bids. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the mechanical construction industry.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Assist in reviewing project drawings and specifications to understand scope and requirements.
- Learn to perform material and labor quantity take-offs for mechanical systems and components.
- Help gather pricing information from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Support the preparation of cost estimates and bid proposals.
- Maintain organized records of estimates, quotes, and project data.
- Participate in site visits and pre-bid meetings as needed.
- Collaborate with the estimating and project management teams to ensure accurate and timely submissions.
Preferred Requirements:
- Exposure to or interest in ASME and ANSI mechanical codes and standards.
- Internship or hands-on experience in construction or mechanical trades.
- Familiarity with Sage 100 (construction accounting/project management software).
- Experience using Trimble AutoBid Mechanical or similar estimating software.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Project or other scheduling tools.
- Experience with Procore or other construction management platforms.
Education and Experience:
- Preferred: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- A high school diploma combined with trade school training in pipefitting, plumbing, or a related mechanical trade is also a strong foundation for this role.
- Strong interest in construction, mechanical systems, or industrial trades.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel.
- Willingness to learn estimating software and industry standards.
- Good communication, organization, and math skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings is a plus but not required.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift fifteen pounds.
