Responsibilities:
- Develop detailed structural designs for machine pits, foundations, and enclosures in accordance with project requirements, industry standards, and local building codes.
- Prepare and review engineering calculations related to loads, stresses, thermal expansion, and vibration for heavy machinery foundations.
- Perform site visits to ensure design criteria and restraints are reflected in design
- Understand and interpret machine drawings to design necessary foundations
- Perform site investigations and feasibility studies to assess ground conditions, machine anchoring needs, and space constraints.
- Detail resteel and produce fabrication drawings and bend list
- Detail intricate areas from established drawings to aid in estimating and construction
- Collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, and rigging teams to understand equipment requirements and integrate them into the pit design.
- Assist in the preparation of construction cost estimates for concrete pits and related works.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities through material optimization and innovative design approaches without compromising performance or safety.
- Provide technical support during the construction phase, including reviewing submittals, responding to RFIs, and conducting site inspections.
- Address design changes and field issues quickly and accurately to minimize project delays.
Requirements:
- 5 + years' experience designing machine foundations within the manufacturing industry.
- Professional Engineer License preferred
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, and/or other CAD/BIM tools for 2D and 3D modeling.
- Strong understanding of concreting, resteel, concrete formwork techniques and constructability
- Strong math and creative critical thinking skills as well as an understanding of geometry
- Ability to lead and mentor other engineers and designers
- Ability to maintain work efficiency in a fast-paced environment
- Strong project coordination and time management abilities; able to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical equipment layouts, installation drawings, and geotechnical reports.
- Excellent communication skills to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including mechanical engineers, project managers, and contractors.
- Strong problem-solving mindset and attention to detail in high-tolerance design environments.
- Solid understanding of load path analysis, dynamic/vibration response, and thermal stress analysis for concrete structures.
