Welding/Fabrication Shop Supervisor Job Description We are seeking a motivated individual with experience in structural steel fabrication to join our team as a Shop Supervisor. The ideal candidate will supervise and coordinate the activities of production and operating workers, including precision workers, machine operators, welders, fitters, fabricators, and material handlers. Responsibilities Supervise and coordinate the activities of production and operating workers. Recommend or implement measures to motivate employees and improve production methods, equipment performance, and product quality. Interpret specifications, blueprints, job orders, and company policies and procedures for workers. Evaluate employee performance and make recommendations to management. Design and develop training programs for new hires across multiple positions and skillsets. Develop evaluation reports that objectively measure performance during the training period. Closely monitor, supervise, and teach the fundamentals and foundational skills of shop fabrication, including safety standards. Communicate effectively with new employees to ensure training comprehension. Evaluate training programs consistently to make recommendations for continuous improvement. Serve as a Subject Matter Expert in all areas of the shop. Essential Skills Minimum 5-7 years experience in commercial structural steel fabrication. Experience with GMAW welding process. Proficient in fitting steel. Strong management skills. Strong knowledge of QC requirements for structural steel. Expert in print reading and detail, specifications, and general notes interpretation. Additional Skills & Qualifications Knowledgeable in all aspects of steel fabrication with an emphasis on process improvement and efficiency. Ability to effectively train fitters and welders. Work Environment Work in a large structural steel production facility in El Mirage, AZ. The environment includes working both inside and outside, with swamp coolers and fans providing some climate control. The facility is organized, with new lines being added periodically. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of NA, Arizona. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $33.00/hr.
