Job Description:
Longwood University invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Director for Capital Design and Construction / Architect / Engineering Manager II (00352). Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Operations, the selected candidate is responsible for overseeing the development, management, delivery, and completion of all university capital projects in accordance with established university and Commonwealth of Virginia policies, procedures, and guidelines. Key responsibilities include project development and management, business and contract management, performance management, and customer service.
This position is located in Farmville, Virginia, and is required to work in person on Longwood University's campus.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
Collaborate cohesively with other units within the facilities department and engage with campus partners to support the organization's overall mission
Communicate well with internal staff and project stakeholders throughout the development and implementation of university projects and initiatives
Must be an effective team-builder
Promote an inclusive work environment
Manage a team of approximately eight staff members
Requirements:
Master's degree in Engineering, Building Construction, Architecture, or a related field with extensive experience in the following:
Overall project management experience must include multiple project types and sizes in various phases of the project cycle. Capital project portfolio should include various building types ranging in size, such as residence halls/dormitories, laboratories, and commercial/industrial facilities.
Established record of progressively responsible and related work experience and demonstrated strong leadership, staff development, management and organizational skills as well as excellent communication skills.
Proven record of strong project delivery skills, contract design and oversight, negotiations, conflict resolution, experience with the following project delivery methods: Design-Build, Construction Manager at Risk, and Design-Bid-Build.
Demonstrated understanding of smart technology devices in the construction technology integrated with business enterprise that enhances project oversight efficiency.
Demonstrated commitment to service delivery to customers and stakeholders, and interact effectively with university administrators, community leaders, employees, students, legislators, and other constituent groups on a broad range of topics.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects, excellent organizational and delegation skills, and ability to work collaboratively in a higher education environment.
Project management experience including the Commonwealth of Virginia procurement and administration of both design and construction contracts for large, complex, and varied building types.
Facility construction and/or management experience in a higher education work environment.
Working knowledge of the Commonwealth of Virginia Construction and Professional Services Manual (CPSM).
Excellent office computing skills in an MS Windows environment, BITS, Bluebeam, and Adobe PhotoShop.
Additional Information:
This position is a full-time, classified, exempt position in a pay band 6. A successful fingerprint based criminal background investigation is required. AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, and other national service alumni are encouraged to apply.
