**Submerged Arc Welding Machine Operator (SAW)**

REPORTS TO:

Lead - Production

FLSA: Non-Exempt

**JOB SUMMARY**

Under the direction of the Welding Lead, the responsibilities of the Submerged Arc Welder (SAW) position include fitting and joining, fabricating, and repairing metal and other weldable material by applying appropriate welding techniques in accordance with product specifications and production schedules.

As a Submerged Arc Welder

, you will work in coordination with the Shift Supervisor and other senior management to ensure that the entire customer product is fit and Welded to the specifications of each job and meets the outlined requirements. Consistent production of quality UT passable welds. Maintain production level as determined by the production supervisor.

Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) is a joining process that involves the formation of an electric arc between a continuously fed electrode and the workpiece to be welded. A blanket of powdered flux surrounds and covers the arc and, when molten, provides electrical conduction between the metal to be joined and the electrode. It also generates a protective gas shield and a slag, all of which protects the weld zone.

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**

High School Diploma or GED required. Incumbent must possess a minimum of 1-2 years Sub arc welding experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.

**QUALIFICATIONS**

The ideal incumbent must possess:

1.

Knowledge of a variety of welder concepts, practices and procedures.

2.

Knowledge and understanding of welding symbols, and other printed instructional material in the welding of products or parts.

3.

Ability to use welding equipment such as Submerged Arc Welding Machine, torches and rose buds.

4.

Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

5.

Ability to use temperature sticks and welding fillet gauges

6.

Ability to work in extreme temperatures (sometimes due to season)

7.

Ability to work additional hours, as needed.

8.

Successfully pass a Welder test, a background check, including criminal history, drug screen, physical, audiogram, and vision test.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**

1.

Ability to perform welding duties using a Sub Arc Welding machine.

2.

Ability to weld steel components with welding equipment as specified by layouts, engineering drawings, work orders, or verbal instructions.

3.

Ability to weld in various directions: flat and horizontal.
