The job of "Senior Maintenance Specialist - General Maintenance/Certified Pool Operator" is done for the purpose/s of maintaining facilities and equipment in safe and efficient operating condition; maintaining compliant operation of the district's swimming pool facilities including ensuring that all local, state and federal health regulations are met; maintaining a preventive maintenance program; maintaining and repairing tasks across the campus; documenting information; and resolving immediate operational and/or safety concerns.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Upholds board policies and follow administrative procedures

Directs assigned workers as needed for the purpose of ensuring work is completed safely and accurately and in a timely manner

Installs machinery and equipment requiring skilled maintenance trades (i.e. plumbing, HVAC, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining facilities in a safe, comfortable, and operating condition

Repairs systems requiring the skills of maintenance trades (i.e. plumbing, HVAC, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining facilities in safe, comfortable operating condition

Maintains and repairs custodial equipment

Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance of school facilities (i.e. plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and grounds)

Responds to maintenance service requests and emergencies in a professional and timely manner

Transports various items (e.g. equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of providing materials at job site as required to complete tasks

Monitor and maintain accurate records of daily pH/chlorine analysis of pool water and adjust pH/chlorine as needed

Operate, maintain, and repair pool filtration system and sanitary procedures in accordance with health codes as necessary

Perform swimming pool upkeep including skimming, vacuuming, and deck cleaning

Monitor and schedule all mandatory state inspections

Maintain accurate records for inspections, repairs, and safety procedures

Collaborate with staff and other key stakeholders to ensure facilities are clean, safe, and operational

Ensure compliance with safety standards, environmental policies, and district procedures

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities

Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities

Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policies

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience Required: Prior job-related experience in one of more crafts, including heavy equipment operation and pool operations. Preferred dump truck experience. Preferred Asbestos Worker certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire). Preferred welding experience (or willingness to obtain upon hire).

Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:

Skills to operate hand and power tools used in crafts; read and interpret plans, blueprints and/or schematics; perform basic math to calculate measurements, quantities, etc.

Knowledge of methods and use of materials, tools and equipment used in welding (gas and electric) and plumbing crafts, appropriate building codes, standards for safe use of equipment (MSDS requirements).

Abilities to stand for prolonged periods, perform a variety of skilled tasks, understand and carry out oral and written instructions, establish priorities, work independently with minimal supervision

Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, stooping/kneeling/crouching, reaching/handling/finger dexterity, talking/hearing conversations and other sounds, near/far visual acuity/depth perception.

Must possess strong organizational and time-management skills

Must possess ability to trouble shoot and repair equipment and building systems

Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:

Valid Driver's License and evidence of insurability, Certified Pool Operator's License, Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance, valid First Aid & CPR card. CDL endorsement and Asbestos Worker Certification preferred or willingness to obtain both upon hire

Training Required: Proficiency in appropriate trade and experience in facility maintenance with working knowledge of multiple trades (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, etc.)

Other Specialized Requirements:

Must have and maintain a phone and be willing to respond to off-hour emergency calls; must have reliable means of transportation; must have excellent moral character and be able to get along with staff, students and adults; must present a positive public image, maintain a neat, clean personal appearance, wear clothing appropriate to tasks being performed, and have regular and consistent work attendance.

EDUCATION:

High school diploma and/or equivalent; prior job-related experience with increasing levels of responsibility in a school or institutional setting preferred. Technical training or certifications preferred.
