Under the general supervision of the Electric Contract Crew Lead, the Electric Project Coordinator manages multiple contractors involved in the installation of electric civil work, construction, maintenance and repair of both the electric overhead and underground distribution system. Additionally, this position ensures compliance with approved documents and electric construction standards, as-built record correction.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Employee and public safety is one of the primary responsibilities of this role.
  • Ensures detailed tailboard meetings are conducted with crew as needed to ensure awareness of conditions, hazards, and specifics to work to be performed with a primary focus on safety.
  • Ensure that the contractors perform the assigned jobs in compliance with the contract, job requirements, engineering and construction specifications and standards and safety policy and practices. Interpret, explain and enforce City policies, procedures, electrical codes, specifications and ordinances.
  • Coordination between design and construction for design interpretation, material shortages or additional needs, change control and documentation and review construction contractor invoices for accuracy for manager approval for all assigned service delivery projects, Capital Improvement and Expansion projects for the Citys Electric system that are designed.
  • Coordinate with the Safety Supervisor to ensure full compliance with the Safety Program and Polices.
  • Responsible for contractor work quality, invoicing, field auditing and quality assurance.
  • Be able to manage all job assignments in multiple software systems. Organize work and manage multiple tasks and inputs simultaneously. Completes and maintains all work documentation and reporting in a timely manner.
  • Completes and maintains paperwork, as-builts and all job information. On completion of the job turns in all completed paperwork/documentation on a timely basis. Updating all software applications as needed.
  • Schedules and attends pre-construction and project coordination meetings; inspects customer-installed civil for accuracy and adherence to design and specifications as required.
  • Regularly visits field work sites to monitor progress, safety and contractor performance.
  • Responsible for coordinating customer communications and control center clearances and switching orders, Hot line tags/arch flash setting/one-shot to ensure public safety and loss control.
  • Coordinates customer notifications and outage scheduling as needed to ensure customers needs and expectations are met. Provides clear, professional, proactive communication with customers in a variety of field situations during projects and jobs, while ensuring safety and compliance with industry standards.
  • Coordinate with job scheduling and control center to obtain required work clearances, switching guidelines and proactive safeguards such as one-shot/arc-flash, etc.
  • Attends development and pre-application meetings as required for these types of projects for the primary goal of fact-finding customer needs, initial review of proposed site plans, gathering or requesting additional information for design and communicates other needs or development responses utilizing My Permit Now.
  • Coordinates with Scheduling and the Electric Operations Supervisors, tree trimming prior to construction starting.
  • Assures that streetlight additions, modifications or deletions are properly reported to Customer Care for proper billing. Overtime may be required based on the contractor's agreed-upon work schedule.
  • Proactively prepares for emergencies; supports all efforts during emergencies, assists in electric operations, storm restoration, and directs contract crews.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, training and Experience Guidelines

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Eight (8) years of full-time work experience in electric utility distribution system maintenance and construction experience. OR any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • One (1) year of education (30 semester hours) from an accredited college or university or technical school may be substituted for one (1) year of the required work experience with a maximum substitution of two (2) years.

Preferred:

  • Journeyman Level Certification or equivalent.
  • Five (5) years of experience in a lead lineman capacity.

Knowledge of:

  • Basic electrical system construction, design and safety
  • Of the O.H. & URD specifications book
  • Design, Mapping, and Data Collection Systems.
  • City ordinances, policies and procedures.
  • NESC, NEC, OSHA codes.
  • APPA safety manual as adopted by the Electric Department and OSHA safety regulations.
  • Project management and scheduling.
  • Distribution design and construction practices.
  • Effective customer service principles and practices.
  • Distribution, construction and design standards.
  • Local environmental requirements for construction and maintenance activities.

Skill in:

  • Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Following electrical safety procedures.
  • Leading and directing a workforce.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Data analysis and problem solving of technical, safety, and construction issues.
  • Using a computer and related software programs.
  • Electric distribution design methodology and electronic design software.
  • Interpret symbology, connectivity and status.
  • Feeder switching, sectionalizing, load balancing, lock out/tag out and emergency operation procedures for electric systems.
  • Manage construction schedules, adapting to unforeseen issues and creative problem-solving.
  • Time management and multitasking functions.
  • Operating equipment safely; following electrical safety procedures.
  • Reading electrical hazard warnings on equipment, stake sheets, material sheets, and design documents.
  • Solving technical, safety, and construction problems.
  • Interpreting policies, procedures, contract documents, laws, regulations, etc.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Valid Class C Texas drivers license

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, crouching, bending, vision, hearing, talking, use of foot controls. Temperature extremes from weather and engines; dust; loud noise from worksites; creosote burns; proximity to live electric lines; occasional dogs and insects; uneven terrains; exposure to poison oak, ivy and sumac; entry into confined spaces.

Hiring Range: $42.09 - $52.72, hourly.
