Summary: JH Kelly has grown into one of the largest mechanical contractors in the Pacific Northwest. Our Projects encompass everything from building foundations, structural steel, and all types of process and material moving equipment to intricate process piping and instrumentation & control systems. We excel at completing complex, multi-craft projects under challenging schedule constraints.
The Assistant Project Manager plays a key role supporting the Project Manager in planning, coordinating, and executing construction projects from start to finish. Responsibilities include managing schedules, budgets, and resources, as well as communicating with clients, subcontractors, and team members to ensure project milestones are met. The Assistant Project Manager also assists in overseeing daily operations, resolving issues, and ensuring that all work complies with safety, quality, and regulatory standards. The successful candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and has strong communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Salary Range: $28 - $35 per hour (DOE), FLSA non-exempt (OT eligible).
Key Responsibilities:
Learn, follow, and promote Company safety and quality protocols.
Participate in the creation and response to RFIs.
Assist in the preparation and update of the project schedule.
Interface and coordinate with designers and provide constructability advice regarding design.
Work with construction and design professionals in the main office and the job site.
Provide permit procurement assistance.
Assist project managers with the coordination, review, and approval of project shop drawings and submittals in conjunction with project specifications.
Assist with estimating takeoffs.
Maintain as-built documents.
Maintain proactive and positive relationships within the crafts, including shop and field craft personnel, as well as supervision of coworkers
Maintain proactive and positive relationships with customer representatives, vendors, suppliers, subcontractors, safety, CAD/BIM, accounting, and IT.
Oversee construction activities at assigned job sites, ensuring timely completion and adherence to safety standards.
Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Relationships:
Maintain proactive and positive relationships within the JH Kelly operating groups and teams, including shop and field craft personnel.
Foster positive relationships with customer representatives, vendors, suppliers, subcontractors, safety, CAD/BIM, accounting, IT, and all project teams.
Experience / Qualifications:
Degree in Construction Management, Mechanical, Industrial, Civil engineering degree, and/or equivalent experience or education.
Minimum of one (1) year of experience in the construction industry.
Familiarity with Civil/Structural Construction is preferred.
Familiarity with theoretical knowledge of Project Management, Construction Management, Construction Contracts, Quality Assurance/Quality Control, and/or Safety is preferred.
Proficient with Microsoft Office and Bluebeam, with intermediate skills in Excel.
Scheduling experience or education.
Proficient in reading drawings and isometrics.
Job turnover experience.
Must be able to travel to various construction job sites as needed.
Necessary Skills:
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to read and understand Construction drawings and work, and adapt under pressure.
Self-starter, motivated, and takes initiative.
Organized and productive.
Ability to proactively build and cultivate relationships.
Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with multiple tasks and projects at hand.
Energetic and eager to prioritize workload and tackle new projects and ideas.
Must have a valid driver's license.
Physical Requirements:
Physical requirements for this role include the ability to transition frequently between an office and a construction field setting. In the office, the individual must be able to sit for extended periods while working at a computer, performing repetitive tasks such as typing and using a mouse, and communicating by telephone. In the field, the individual must be capable of standing and walking for extended periods on various surfaces, including uneven terrain, and climbing stairs as required. The role also necessitates the ability to kneel, crouch, and crawl to view/inspect tight spaces, as well as occasionally lifting 40 pounds. Good vision and hearing are essential for reading plans, inspecting work, and communicating on-site. The individual must also be adaptable to working outdoors in various weather conditions, adhere to site-specific dress code, and comply with safety requirements by wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots. Flexibility to travel between job sites and work outside regular business hours when necessary is also required.
