The Survey & Lands Engineering (SLE) Division measures and provides geospatial information necessary for the development of design, construction, and maintenance of the New Mexico state transportation system. SLE supports all surveying and mapping activities required to fulfill the NMDOT's obligation to transportation projects in the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP).
As a valued new employee to NMDOT, you may be eligible to receive three (3) days of administrate leave upon your start date. This is applicable to external hires not within the State of New Mexico Government.
Why does the job exist?
This position assists our Survey Field Units in planning, coordinating, and directing all work responsibilities needed to provide controlled survey data for location and right of way surveys for planning, design development, and right of way acquisition/monumentation and construction of highway improvement projects.
How does it get done?
Key responsibilities of this position will be:
* Support the development of goals, schedules, objectives, and organizational plans for mission accomplishment.
* Assist and coordinate survey efforts for projects from field to finish with responsibilities for providing right of way and mapping support services.
* Utilize maps, plans, survey data, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data in order to search and or perform survey calculations in the field/office to assist in the completion of surveying and mapping activities.
* Provide assistance in leading a Survey Unit and available resources in order to assure quality of services and product are being delivered for each project responsible for.
Who are the customers?
The New Mexico Department of Transportation project staff and the traveling public.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have preferred experience and/or education in the following areas:
* One (1) year of experience as a Certified Surveyor Intern, using principles and methods of a variety of types such as: route surveys, location surveys, photo control surveys, geodetic control surveys, topographic survey, as-built surveys, metes and bounds surveys, right of way surveys, easement surveys, and Global Positioning System (GPS) surveys.
* Experience and use with; Trimble GPS surveying instruments; Trimble data controllers; Trimble Business Center; and Autodesk/AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant Surveying/Geomatics discipline or NMBLPEPS approved related Bachelor of Science degree with required credits in Surveying/Geomatics and two (2) years of relevant experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience. Must be qualified to become a registered New Mexico Surveyor Intern.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.
Employment requires successful completion of pre-employment physical exam and is conditional pending results.
Business reference check and Driver's License verification are required.
All applicants must be certified by New Mexico Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Professional Surveyors as a Licensed Professional Engineer in good standing.
Working Conditions
Extensive statewide overnight travel, exposure to construction equipment, traffic, heights, heavy lifting, insects, pollen, rough terrain and inclement weather conditions. Must have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs and physical expenditure is necessary.
