An Electrical Engineer is needed for a manufacturing company considered one of the world's leading innovators in materials science in the Wilmington, NC area. This role provides hands-on electrical engineering support for the installation, troubleshooting, and startup of automated manufacturing equipment, while leading cross-functional teams, ensuring safety compliance, and driving project execution at both domestic and international sites.

responsibilities:
- Develop and execute project plans and timelines to meet goals without compromising safety, intellectual property, or quality.
- Ensure safety training, hazard analysis, and safety compliance for the project team; identify and report safety issues and incidents.
- Understand process and equipment functions in assigned area.
- Assess usability of existing equipment and ensure compatibility with new installations.
- Perform hands-on equipment setup and debugging before turnover to operations.
- Analyze and improve equipment installation practices to enhance efficiency and schedules.
- Review, update, and maintain installation documentation, drawings, checklists, machine specs, and schedules.
- Collaborate with external system integrators and machine builders to deliver integrated equipment systems on time and budget.
- Troubleshoot and direct replacement of defective components to resolve equipment/process issues.
- Provide training on equipment installation procedures to internal and external teams.
- Procure and expedite materials needed for equipment build or installation.
- Modify and develop software programs for process equipment control.
- Assist in developing integrated industrial control systems for new and existing equipment.
- Redesign electrical components to reduce costs, solve interferences, and correct designs.
- Interpret and use electrical drawings and schematics for troubleshooting and design purposes.
- Manage multiple work streams and priorities in a team environment, maintaining focus on safety and quality.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (equivalent experience considered in rare cases).
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in a manufacturing or controls environment.
- Knowledge of power systems up to 480VAC.
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics and drawings.
- Hands-on experience with hand tools, measurement instruments, and alignment devices.
- strong communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.
- Flexible and adaptable with the ability to manage changing priorities.
- Proactive approach to job site safety and risk mitigation.
- Experience working cross-functionally with Mechanical, IT, and Process engineering teams.
- Experience with software and equipment such as AutoCAD, PLCs (Beckhoff, B&R, Allen-Bradley), SCADA, HMI, and process control programming.
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations (NEC, NFPA70, OSHA).
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, especially in optical fiber production (preferred).
